My Bamboo Manga has finally arrived – First impression Review

Yesterday I finally got my long awaited Bamboo Manga. I had been waiting for this day very intently. As soon as it arrived I was eager to play with it. Like with many electronic items I had to input the drivers and programs, which was actually rather easy and did not take too long. The only thing I could complain about right away is that I could not use the tutorial at all, I even reinstalled both the Bamboo drivers/programs and also the Adobe applications (which are needed to use the wacom programs). Despite that I did not seem to have any problems at all. There are some preinstalled games in a little application named Bamboo dock (which starts automatically), the games help first time users to get a feel for the pen and the tablet. After all, most people who use such a system for the first time may have a bit of a learning curve at the beggining since it is quite different looking at the computer screen instead of looking down where you would normally be drawing.

There are also some simple drawing programs that can be used. Sure, they are simple but even so, just by seeing how much I could do with just that was amazing.

I know it kinda sucks, but this was my first try at drawing without practicing beforehand. It was made using a picture of “the Mona Lisa” as the background.

You may laugh but please, not too hard.

After finishing installing the programs and playing around with the settings for a couple of minutes I began to draw a couple of things (just figures and lines, as well as playing with the brushes). Eventually when I sort of got the feel for it, I began to draw on Open Canvas Lite (so far I like it more than Corel Painter). Here is the picture below.

When I finish my Yakumo drawing I’ll post it up (Yakumo is my favorite female character on School Rumble by the way, well alongside Eri).

I was actually surprised I would start getting the hang of drawing on the tablet so fast. There are some movements one has to beware of (otherwise the lines one would normally want will be too long, since te tablet is smaller than a normal piece of paper). Other than that it is just like drawing on paper, there are the obvious advantages of course. Like clean erasing and so on. Plus, one can save a lot of money this way as well (not having the need to buy more paint, markers, pencils, etc.) So far I really like it.

[EDIT] 12/22/12

About a year ago I did a quick report of what I thought about my new Bamboo Manga. The reason being that I seriously could not find much information about it online except for the little information Wacom provided on their website. That information was not enough though. And judging by the amounts of visits I get to my page because of this post in question, I assume it is the same for the rest of you.

I had to think quite hard of whether I should buy it or not, in the end I did. Was it worth it? It surprisingly was, it was so responsive I was actually really surprised. But of course there are some aspects that one has to get used to of course, such as looking up at the computer screen instead of looking down at your hands while drawing (this was the most challenging aspect I had to go through at the beggining). But luckily we as humans are capable of adjusting, so with practice this feeling does go away.

This video does not go in great depth, but it does provide some more information about the Bamboo Manga. I left out installation processes, as well as some real tests to see just how much one can bring out of the tablet. But the artwork in the box does give one a glimpse of what is possible if one practices dilligently enough. If you, the viewer, ask me to go into even more details about how to customize the button options, go through the installation and setup process I might consider it. But this should be a good amount of information for now.

If you happen to have any more questions go right ahead and ask.

Till next time

How to Draw Challenge: The Nineteenth – Nana

Request by: key1197

Although I have not seen nor read the series I know it is quite popular. Back when I was in high school I remembered seeing a lot of these books and also many posters on some of my favorite manga. I was asked to draw Nana, but after going through the internet and finding out a bit about the series I found out that the two main characters are named Nana. I truly hope that I chose the right character, if not then I apologize to key1197. It seems that they differentiate themselves by nana and hachi so I truly hope I drew the right person.

The scene I decided to use seems to be all over the internet and I am pretty sure it comes from one of the pages of the manga. So as to differentiate it a bit and make it my own I decided to change a couple of small things (mostly the hairstyle).

Hope you enjoy it,

Area no Kishi

I just started watching this anime yesterday, and I just could not stop watching it. For one, I doubt I said this before but my favourite sport is Football (or Soccer here in the US), so seeing an anime about it really gets my attention. I had seen Captain Tsubasa, Whistle!, and a couple of others (although I really did not get into those, probably why I cannot remember their names), which i why I feel that finding another series that deals with one of my favourite passtimes is refreshing. Just like with Captain Tsubasa and Whistle! I really feel like going outside and playing again (man it feels like it was such a long time ago that I touched a ball). I feel that this series is alot more alike to Whistle! (especially since Captain Tsubasa was more about extrordinary techniques  such as my alltime favourite “Tiger Shot” performed by my favourite character Hyuga). Anyway if you have not read or seen the animes of both Captain Tsubas and or Whistle! I suggest you take a look.

Now back to Area no Kishi. The plot seems to revolve around two brothers (Suguru and Kakeru) who are in love with the sport since they were kids. They along with their childhood friend Nana nicknamed Seven (for those who know a bit about Japanese, you will see the connection there) were really good players. Time passed and and because of some incident (read the manga or watch the anime to find out why) Kakeru no longer wanted to be part of the team as a player. Suguru really loathed that his younger brother who had such amazing talents would just let them go to waste because of such petty reasons (Although having felt that ugly feeling of hopelessnes one time I can see what Kakeru might have felt during those moments. Let me tell you it is not pretty, in fact one feels locked and nothing can be done until one figures out why and how to move on). Anyway after a rather sad and horrific event, Kakeru and Suguru became one (read or see the anime to know what I mean by this) and are now forging a path to their dream of winning the World Cup.

I am in episode six, and let me tell you that I am really enjoying my time so far.

Until Next Time,

Ranka Lee Drawing

As promised here is my drawing of Ranka Lee. Sorry I posted it kind of late but it is in. It is not yet finished, especially since I am experimenting a bit on this drawing. For a change I decided to actually use some color. So since I think I have a hang of drawing with out many mistakes now, I am just drawing it from scratch using color pencils. Making mistakes now could pretty well cost me the drawing so I have to be extremely careful. What do you guys think of it so far?

Macross Frontier

I just finished watching Macross Frontier and I was just blown away. Not only did they pay homage to the original story a couple of times but the music and story was truly amazing. I was rather surprised at how much I like it. Having watched both the original Macross and Frontier, now I feel like watching all the series in between. When watching the story I sometimes felt that certain emotions that would later begin to gradually change over time. For instace, at the beggining of the series I seriously felt a bit annoyed my Sheryl Nome. But as the story proggressed  one could see just how austanding and comprehensible she really was. As for Ranka, I was a fan since the very beggining although it did waver a bit when she was sucked in by that evil women at the end. Thankfully she snapped out of it.

The pilots were really cool. They achieved a really good amount of action and cinematography on the battlefield on this series. Something that could not really be done on the original because of the limitations of technology and animation. I would really like to see a remake of the original series (not the “Do You Remember Love” version though, I didn’t really like it) I bet it would look really good with the abilities we possess at this moment.

I feel like I should do a sketch of Ranka… allright, I’ll put one up tommorrow.

Hope you look forward to it,

How to Draw Challenge The Sixth – Gundam RX-78

I’ve noticed that most of my drawings are of girls. Sure I can’t deny that I do prefer to draw girls and all, but I do need to have a bit of diversity. So on that note I will try and draw other things (and yes girls will still be drawn). The first on my list is … a Gundam. And what better Gundam to start off with than the father of all Gundam’s… Gundam RX-78. When looking for references I was amazed at just how much it has evolved since it first launched back in the 70’s. Now it has alot more details added to it which make it look really cool. References used for this drawing were model kits and the 1/1 scale Gundam erected in Japan.

For this video I recommend listening to: “Beginning by Daisuke Inoue “.

Hope you enjoy it,

How to Draw Challenge: The Third – Mio Akiyama

Today I am posting a video from my old account, the subject… Mio Akiyama from K-On. She is probably the cutest girl of the series and is pretty cool too. I really enjoyed watching her grow in the anime. Truthfully that hairstyle is just way too appealing, it should be illegal (thankfully it is not). What’s funny is that although she preffered to only be back up for the band she seemed to really have an affinity to be center stage and lead. I really hope to draw a new drawing of Mio in the near future.

For this video I recommend listening to K-On’s opening theme “Don’t Say Lazy”

Hope you enjoy it,

Supernatural Anime

I’m a bif fan of Supernatural so I am actually really surprised that I didn’t find out at all about this before. I just saw two episodes and was blown away. I really enjoyed watching it.

Here are some pictures:

I really like the whole anime yet realistic feel they gave it, it appeals to anime fans and all the other Supernatural fans. What do you guys think?
