How to Draw Challenge Tomoyo Sakagami and Kotomi Ichinose

This drawing was strangely easy and hard at the same time. While doing the main outline I was actually breezing through quite nicely. It did not look too good but I knew that I could just fix that once I added some shading.

While finishing up Tomoyo and started on Kotomi things started to get complicated. No matter what I did it just did not seem right. Despite knowing the problem I just wanted to try and see if I could perform the impossible of making it look good but I guess that just was not going to happen. In the end I decided to just give up and fix the problem once and for all so I could move on to the rest of the drawing. That dilemma was of course the eyes, once you see the video it should be very apparent.

There were actually a couple of details I have to fix like the overall head size of Kotomi and add some more detail to make it seem like Tomoyo and Kotomi are walking past each other while someone is taking a picture. I have not seen the anime or read the novel but from the information I gathered I figured it would happen something like this.

Luffy vs. Natsu while Naruto observes

So here we have another drawing for another contest that popped up. I want to say thanks to LittleBabyDollxx for giving me the info otherwise i wouldn’t even have known about it.

The theme revolved around the usage of three characters each from one of these series; One Piece (definitely one of my all time favorites), Fairy Tail (Hiro Mashima has not disappointed me yet, I became a fan from his last work Rave Master), and Naruto.

I decided to make it revolve as a battle, but because I only really know about Luffy and Natsu (I did not really get into Naruto when I read a couple of volumes, maybe I’ll give it another chance sometime in the future) I put Naruto as kind of filler. The back story goes something like this; Luffy and Natsu want to find out who is strongest and prove themselves to their respective comrades and the world, while Naruto fought some strong foe (I’ll let you guys use your knowledge and imagination to come up with someone) and won, but still got battle scarred. As he lay on the beach he was to witness an amazing battle by two of the worlds strongest warriors.

Personally I think the drawing looks much better without a background. Reason being that I felt I rushed the beach a bit too much and thus sacrificed a lot of the details. I don’t feel it looks too bad, but it does not meld well with the three figures. I would have to add some color to the lighting that touch Luffy, Natsu and Naruto so that they looked natural. But seeing as I only had one day to work on it, and if I added such details I would lose time and maybe not get the chance to turn something in. Although incomplete this piece should be sufficient (or so I hope).

How to Draw Challenge – Mephisto and Amaimon

request by: Soul000Eater
For this weeks requests we have Mephisto and Amaimon from Blue Exorcist which is a really good series.

I wanted to give a simpler kind of drawing and yet make it a cross between realistic and manga styled. The result is not something extraordinary but it doesn’t look too bad either. I wonder if when I’ll be able to master this style? I’m sure I could accomplish it if I added more time to the drawing but I want to bring it out easily and swiftly.

Hope you enjoy it,

How to Draw Challenge – Flandre Scarlet

Request by: Marcus Mosley
A definite improvement to the first Flandre drawing I made on my old channel. I wanted to combine many different elements using a cosplayer, figure and many reference pictures. I really loved the eyes done on the cover of “Scarlet Eyes”, it screamed of Banpai Akira (I wonder who the artist was thought).

In my mind I wanted to give her a face of delight but still give a sense of creepiness or strangeness about it. I was imagining that in the background there was destruction, which is why I decided to go with such expressions. Of course the drawing could go either way. By darkening the eyes the theme would become darker and by putting some light she could just be happy about anything really (something considered “normal” maybe). I had an urge to leave her without shading but I felt it would eventually feel incomplete.

How to Draw Challenge – Belldandy

Request by: xSTiLLo
This brings back memories, this was one of the first anime’s I have seen (well one of the first after I knew what anime was, anyway). I do not really remember much about it other than it was about a guy who likes motorcycles and who one day stumbles upon Belldandy a goddess who somehow was stranded on earth. From there the story progresses with the introduction of Belldandy’s “sisters”? Sorry it has been a long time since I last saw it (I was a kid really…), I’m amazed I could remember this much.

Anyway I did some research and have come to realize that my memory was off, as it turn out he calls her through a telephone service and makes her stay with him forever, thus giving the cause to why Belldandy is with Keiichi in the first place (yes it is all coming back to me now… or is it?)

For this drawing I used an action figure for the pose and took it from there. I decided to put a bit more effort into this one since I noticed I was lacking on the others. And overall I am glad I did. The more I see the final piece the more I like it.

Hope you enjoy it,
