Lynn Minmey Rainy MR2

It’s been a while since I last made a painting of Macross. I came upon a reference picture of Akina Nakamori which I felt would translate well as a Lynn Minmey painting. I thought about changing the outfit but quite liked the aesthetic, so I decided to keep it. The reference picture I have didn’t allow me to find out what the car is, which made me decide to paint an MR2 in it’s stead.

Rei Hino Sweater outfit

I’ve been focusing on just trying to work with color, but it seems that my poses have been a little to stiff and static. This was brought to my attention by my brother. With that in mind, I think it might not be a bad idea to work with poses that are in motion or at the very least interesting. I’ve been having the urge to paint Rei Hino for some time now. So last Friday I finally decided to do so. It snowed quite hard so I chose an outfit fit the weather. Funnily enough, today it started snowing again. I also wanted to try out a more vibrant coloring style for the hair because I really liked the way it looked on this painting of Sayu I made and a reference of Sailor Saturn that was painted by @666pigeon

Yusuke walking line art

I really like Yusuke’s jacket outfit that he first wore in episode 5. Personally I prefer his uncombed hair, but I have an idea for a future drawing. When I scanned it, I noticed that I made his head too big so I made it smaller with Photoshop. On this piece I wanted to practice some foreshortening with Yusuke’s finger point.

Best Smile DarkCloudXERO entry

Yesterday night I learned about the Clip Studio contest, with the theme “The Best Smile”. I only had a couple of hours to work on it today since I had some obligations I had to take care of so I didn’t really have any real plans and just started painting. Although not required I decided to use Clip Studio Paint and was amazed at how good it felt to use their oil paint option. I think I may actually like it more than Corel Painter since the oil paint size is controlled by the pen pressure. I’ll have to play around with it more.

Dia de los Muertos 2020

Another year has passed… this one was a weird one. Who knows what the future has in store for us but I’m gonna give it my best.
Didn’t have any time to draw today so here’s just a rough draft.

Inktober 2020 27 Music Miguel

Today’s prompt is music. I wanted to make something more Halloween themed. At the beginning I was thinking of doing perhaps a more realistic take on the Spooky Scary Skeletons segment where a skeleton was playing the drums on another skeleton. Then I remembered Miguel from Coco and changed my mind. I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve actually done a drawing on Coco. Both Halloween and Dia de los Muertos will be here soon. Man time flies.

Nube vs. Corona V.

As the whole world is trying to deal with the Corona Virus pandemic I felt I should at least make one piece about it. I just sketched some ideas and began painting as soon as I felt the idea was close enough. I really wanted to make another piece with ガしガし‘s style again. I was debating whether to make Corona’s image more closely related to the virus itself or make one up based on the name Corona. So I did the latter. Just after finishing it, I decided to add some saliva and dark shadows to Corona V.

Stay inside everyone, let’s end this virus together.

Nube Commuting Home

There’s a contest currently going on with Corel. It’s supposed to end today. As soon as I finished with my 2B painting I started working on this one. Aside from using a reference photo for the background I went ahead and painted Nube from memory. The original version was lighter and faded so I went ahead and added a multiply layer to add more color to it. I just started painting and just let it flow.

Asuka Kato miniskirt

I finally did a painting of Asuka Kato from Watamote. I really like the way she tries to get closer to Kuroki, even to the point of giving Kuroki’s weirdness a pass. I am a bit weary that she will get corrupted by her but I think there won’t be another Kii-chan incident (I’m sure Kuroki won’t let that happen again). She’s just such a nice genuine person. Plus she’s gorgeous.

The drawing was done for the 17th day of Inktober 2019. It was painted with Corel Painter except for the snow which was done with Photoshop using a combination of the scatter brush options and then using a special effects brush. I quite like how it turned out.

This painting has three versions. The original drawing painted of course. And then two versions of her holding an umbrella, one with snow and one without.

Aiming for no. 1

This is a colored version of the first inktober piece of 2019. I was wondering what kind of coloring styles would work with a piece that has quite a bit of hatching. But first I wanted to come up with a background. Since this is a piece of myself I decided to make the background my studio. I wanted to work with a simple background but still keep the idea of what it’s supposed to be. I would say it’s like impressionism. It was quite fun trying to recreate my room and liked the way it came out. Now the next thing is trying to match the painting in the background. I decided to go with a simple  painting style like that of anime. When I was done painting I noticed that the colors were much too vibrant and dark so I went and modified the colors and vibrancy in Photoshop. I quite like the way it came out.
