Inktober 2018 #13 Guarded Shinji Ikari
Oh, man. If you know anything about Evangelion and Shinji Ikari I hope that just looking at the drawing will be enough to portray the theme and what I was going for. Could have shaded it and add a bit more to the background, but this feeling of loneliness and emptiness I think fits well.
Had to make a quick one today since I get busy during the weekends with my other job. Also this is the second piece following the prompts. I was quite surprised at how fast I was able to make this drawing… （・□・）

Inktober 2018 #4 Double Feature – Asuka and Rei
I wasn’t really sure what to draw, but my brother let me know that October 4th is Evangelion’s 23rd anniversary which is why I decided to draw Asuka and Rei.
These are the final drawings. I was planning on only drawing Asuka, but decided to draw Rei as well. After all she was one of the reasons I first decided to watch Evangelion. More on that later.
I used three references for the Asuka drawing. Since it’s October and Fall I went with Asuka from the rebuilds since she wears that cool jacket and hat.
As for the Rei drawing, back in the day when I didn’t have internet or even a dvd player I used to rent vhs tapes from my public library. Luckily they carried anime which I of course rented. One of my favorite things about those cassettes were the trailers since they were made like amvs. They used to show scenes from the anime and played (usually) the opening theme song which I loved watching either because of the animation, the song or both.
As for Evangelion, I forget what tape I played (though I believe it was probably Blue Seed), but there was a trailer for Evangelion. I had never seen nor heard of it before. But it blew my mind. This rendition of the trailer had the opening theme song (so far I have only found another version of the trailer online which uses the song Ode to Joy) and it just blew me away. It was … beatiful … glorious… and captivating. I just wanted to see it.
One of the images that captivated me was when I saw a blue haired girl behind a window looking right at me with her beautiful red eyes. Such a great trailer.
As it turns out, after looking through my local library (I didn’t know how to really navigate the internet, much less their website), but it just so happened to carry the whole series of Evangelion. I was elated, but there was one problem. It was on DVD. I didn’t own one at that time. It was torture knowing it was so close and yet so far out of my reach.
Anyway, that is why I made this piece. I could have added some shading but it was too late by this point.

It was all going well until I made a mistake and once again ran my hand over Rei’s hair (that’s 4 mistakes in a row).

Eva Unit 01 Berserk Sunset (Digital)
This was originally done in August 24, 2018.
I had an idea of what I wanted for a while, but I also wanted to try a fast and simple coloring scheme like what I see on Pixiv. This is what I ended up with.

I’ve been practicing drawing from imagination, at least the form and main idea. For details I still need references since a lot of what I draw has very specific … well … details.

so I went with this color scheme, and yet in my mind I had the sunset scene in my head. So I tried to see how it would look with darker blue hues first.

Merry Christmas (and happy holidays!)
So Christmas has finally arrived.
I was working on an artwork for this year and just now finally finished it. I will be making a background at some point but that will have to wait for next year. But for those who visit my site, here is a peek at it. (The print won’t be available till next year though).

A little update 12\3\17
I finished my paper about two weeks ago but my side job has been aking for more of my time lately, though we should be done for the rest of the year once we finish the next job (whenever that is). As for school, I just have a class tommorrow and finals next week. So I’m almost finally done for this year and will have a couple of weeks where I can focus completely on art. So for this weekend I will be giving some time to just study, but for most of this week I should be able to keep working on art (aside from the daily chores and things to do).
Having said that, I have been working on some new artwork these past few days. Drawing I can hatch things out quite quickly but again color is still giving me problems. So I decided to make a piece with simple color schemes and color application like that done in older anime. This works two fold. I wan’t to give my brothers a specialized gift for Christmas and also make a demo of a possible service I can offer customers. This whole year I’ve been trying to just learn as much as I can before I started to sell again. But I can’t keep it in the backburner for too long, the year is almost gone so I have to think about keeping the business side of things alive again.
So what is this new potential service? How about a personalized recreation of a poster where you or someone you know is taking the place of the protaganist/character. Or something simpler like the anime version (of you or someone you know) in what ever style you’d like.
I doubt my brothers check this page so here are the two artwork I am currently working on.
First is Gundam X, sorry the line art is too light for the scanner to really catch it. and I don’t have a digital line art copy for some reason.

I tried using the colors from the anime so I just focused on applying color. But as expected I still had a lot of trouble working it since I’m still not used to painting digitally. It’s a great tool I but I much prefer traditional. But I’m still not good enought to make colors as smooth as digital. Though I did learn a lot and could definitely get better. but I feel I might have to make a choice on which one to focus on. Learning both will take quite a while… We’ll see.

Next is the Evangelion one. I have started painting it digitally, but I think I will switch it to traditional. Time is running out and I wan’t to do a lot more pieces. I just don’t know how people could paint so amazingly using the digital medium. Switching between both really confuses me.

New artwork Featuring Asuka Langley Shikinami
As promised here is some new artwork that will be added to the gallery soon. This time it is Asuka from the new Evangelion movies.
What I like the most about Evangelion is probably Asuka both in the original series and the new remakes. Though most people will not like my opinion, I feel I like the new Asuka more. The reason being that the original Asuka didn’t really seem to have much of a future anymore. And that seemed rather sad to me. Sure it probably makes the story more interesting but I seriously prefer characters that see a light after all the struggles, which is what I think this new remake has and the other one didn’t. Regardless, both were great. The thing I hated the most about the original Asuka is that she was too much in “love” with Kaji, which I never really understood. Why so much fixation. Though the same can be said about Shinji. Although I’m usually ok with weak characters, Shinji just rubbed me the wrong way, I really don’t like him. In either the original or the remakes. This is probably one of the reasons why I wouldn’t put Evangelion among my favorite animes, The protagonist was just not very likeable to me. And that is a big point against a series. But Asuka despite her many flaws made the story very interesting, and in the new movies very likeable.

Next artwork 11/24/14
Hey guys, I was hoping to maybe even have this piece done by today. But my computer was acting out so I spend all day cleaning and fixing it. So I guess I will just post what I have so far. Truthfully this is an old piece, part of the restoration project. Also I really like the way it already looks right now so I don’t know if I will end up adding anything new to it. But I might. So for now just get a look at this. I will get back to you guys once i have made a decision.
EVA-01: “Berserk -EMERGENCY”
I’m finally done with this piece. Man did this take a long time. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to to with this drawing. But overall I’m quite content with the way it came out. I sure am tired though… Anyway here it is. I have some other artwork I can work with, I’ll let you know tomorrow.
I’m thinking of adding two versions, one without a background and one with.
What do you guys think?

I’m currently working on this piece, here’s what I’ve done so far. I am still thinking on how to finish it.
Unit 01 Beast Inside
Here is the drawing for this week, Unit 01 from Neon Genesis Evangelion. I was pretty much done with it yesterday, but there was something that kept bothering me about my drawings. The fact that they look so unrefined. I knew why that was of course. I did not blend the colors anymore. This happened because I decided to practice doing this so that I could increase my abilities without the need to blend them, that way once I decided to go back and put some good effort into my work I would be able to produce some amazing stuff. Sadly I got so used to doing this that I had almost forgotten the blending techniques I had developed. And because of it I have to start all over again. I gave it a try for this drawing which came out pretty well (though it looks unfinished without a background, I’ll have to do something about that from now on). Now that I have remembered a couple of my old techniques and about blending colors, I will try to bring out some better quality work from here on out.
