Susuki Airi Red Hat

I’ve been wanting to make an all ink drawing for a while now. This time I chose to draw Airi Suzuki. It’s a shame I got into ℃-ute (and Berryz Koubou) a little late to the party. I listened to a couple of their songs back in the day but never really delved into all their projects. On the plus side I have plenty of new material that will be new to me. I’m really glad Airi decided to continue singing after ℃-ute retired. I wont lie out of all the ℃-ute members Airi captured my attention the most (although everyone is winning me over when I started checking their songs and videos out, but I still think Airi is my favorite).

One artist that gave me the final push to finally draw this piece is ungrochika an artist that focuses on making art with ink. Her art is quite beautiful do check it out.

here is her twitter

and her instagram

Not only is she an artist but she is also a DJ (and to top it off she is extremely cute too), do check her out.

Here is the final piece:

Riku KHII Bust

Whenever I have time I have been playing through the Kingdom Hearts series before I go ahead and play Kingdom Hearts III. So far I have finished the original, saw the 358/2 days scenes, I started playing Chain of memories but it was quite straining so I went ahead and saw the scenes on youtube. Anyway I finished Kingdom Hearts II about two weeks ago. And I gotta say, the design for Riku in Kingdom Hearts II was definitely the best version so far. I’ve seen his design in Kingdom Hearts III and so far KHII is still the best. Both with the cloak and the his normal clothes.

As a side note, after finishing Kingdom Hearts II I decided to go back to Chain of Memories and slug through it. I really don’t like quitting. I’m almost done with Sora’s section then there should be a short section where I play as Riku.

Here is the finished piece done with my G pen and my Copics:

I made a quick background with Photoshop and Corel Painter:

Trying out different coloring styles: Lynn Minmey

My brother showed me this cool picture that was drawn and then had sections of the dress cut out so that the artist could use the sky as her dresses color. Since I was already drawing Minmey so that I could practice with my pen on bristol paper. Bristol paper is cool and all but it starts to bubble up and break apart when I use water media on it so I decided to paint it digitally. And since I was already preparing  the drawing for using photographs as the “coloring” base I figure it would be a good enough time to practice different coloring styles and backgrounds.

I was just focusing on drawing and painting so I didn’t keep any records of the process this time.

Neo-Geo Land Miss X and Athena

This is the final piece all finally composited together. Making the background sure did take a while. It was all done using Copics. Copics are great but they do have their limitations and require quite a bit of steps in order to have them work the way I want them to. And since covering large areas takes a lot of ink it can be quite an expensive medium. But I wanted to see if I could get a handle on colors and values using nothing but the Copics.

I had to think a good bit about what I wanted the background to be but since I was going for a yanki theme I figured having them in the arcade setting would fit well. I was considering having Athena carrying a bat but decided against that for this one (maybe on another piece sometime in the future). Once I did finish the background I did have to calibrate the colors digitally and also clean up some of the forground objects so that I could place Athena and Miss X behind them. Once I did do that I went ahead and fixed their values so that they fit in with the background and then also added some shadows.

Inktober 2018 #19 Scorched Shin Gojira

Shin Gojira. I wasn’t too sure about the design and the movie itself when I started seeing the first images. And when I saw the film for the first time I was feeling contradicting thoughts since it was such a different take from the Godzilla we all knew up to that point. But after seeing it a second time I really loved it. And I kept liking it even more the more times that I saw it. I really loved that scene where we first saw it make his first atomic breath. The way it transitioned from smoke, then to fire and then to his condensed atomic breath was truly a sight and moment that really touched me. With that in mind, I chose that scene for the scorched prompt.

I’m actually I was able to do exactly what I wanted in this piece. I used the brush tip cover large areas and was able to control the values and textures. I made the fire with rough and irregular lines yet it somehow managed to still look good…

Inktober 2018 #11 Athena Asamiya

Started really late so not much time, need to get to sleep soon. But here is a quick drawing of Athena Asamiya from King of Fighters 99′.  She was another one of the characters that I really liked/like using.

This is the piece, no shading just the outline this time:

Looks really rough and unfinished, but that’s alright.

Inktober 2018 #10 K’

SNK and the King of Fighters are by far my favorite fighting games, and I always felt that they had the better designs compared to their competitor Street Fighters. Man, King of Fighters. It just brings back memories from my childhood. I started with the Art of Fighting on my Super Nintendo. It was one of my favorite games that I played with my brothers back then. Then I later learned and played the King of Fighters (and of course Metal Slug) on the arcade machines that some people had in their houses or in the small shops. Those were some fun times (though it did eat up my coins).

Later when I was in fifth grade I had a friend who owned a Playstation and got to play the King of Fighters 99. This is the game I have the most fond memories of. That’s also where I learned about my favorite King of Fighters character K’. He has such a cool design and at the time it was quite uncommon to see a character with brown skin, which was a big deal for me at the time. Of course we (my brother, my friends and myself) all wanted him to be Mexican and since he had a mysterious background we used that as an excuse to make him so (in our minds). He had such a cool design with his white hair with his cool fire arm. His fighting style was also pretty cool, the way he walked and his moves, then there was the one inch punch… Point is I really liked using him, even if I sucked at using his move set.

This is the final drawing:

IMG_20181010_185632

I’m thinking of using this smaller nib (I believe it’s a maru nib) to work with the shading and see if that makes it faster and easier than using the G nib. I can control it, but it’s all up to pen as to whether it releases the ink the way I want or it doesn’t jump as I shade.

I decided to give myself a bit of a challenge so I  used a gif which kept moving so I had to really pay attention and remember what I wanted to draw. I believe this is from King of Fighters 99′:

Eva Unit 01 Berserk Sunset (Digital)

This was originally done in August 24, 2018.

I had an idea of what I wanted for a while, but I also wanted to try a fast and simple coloring scheme like what I see on Pixiv. This is what I ended up with.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/30004976567/in/dateposted-public/

I’ve been practicing drawing from imagination, at least the form and main idea. For details I still need references since a lot of what I draw has very specific … well … details.

This is the rough draft and the progression.

In my memory I for some reason had in mind Eva 01 look like

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/44941957661/in/dateposted-public/

I had in mind that episode where Eva unit 01 was eating an Angel after going berserk

this one (Screen capture I took from the anime):

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/44893031482/in/dateposted-public/

so I went with this color scheme, and yet in my mind I had the sunset scene in my head. So I tried to see how it would look with darker blue hues first.

After some thought I decided to go with the sunset scene instead.

Man, it really blew up. Bowsette. Let’s give it a shot.

So my brother was telling me about Bowsette on Sunday, and by today it had blown up all over the internet. After my brother gave me the suggestion to draw her as well, I figured it would be a good idea to follow trends. Not only will people be actively looking for said subjects, but it should also be good practice to try and draw out pieces in a timely manner.

I wanted to try doing a flat Anime style. I noticed that a youtuber I see named LavenderTowne  seems to shade by using only one color and choosing the multiply layer option, and that keeps the color balanced and clean.

I noticed that there were three main different color schemes. One that looks like Peach, one with red hair, and another one where Bowsette has tanned skin. You can find the original artwork here. Done by Haniwa.

This is my try and the different re-colors:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/44180638124/in/dateposted-public/

Personally between the light skin color variants I prefer the blonde hair.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/44850711572/in/dateposted-public/

If Bowsette does have red hair I believe the tanned skin looks better.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/44180638244/in/dateposted-public/

I used this picture of Bowser as a reference picture:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/43088930270/in/dateposted-public/

Looking back, maybe I should have tilted her head up a bit. Maybe some other day.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/43089017140/in/dateposted-public/

With the coloring done, I just need to use the magic wand to capture the hair and later the skin so that I can change it quick and easy.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/44180770444/in/dateposted-public/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/44180770354/in/dateposted-public/

After that I just shaded the picture with this somewhat dark yellow, put the shadow layer into multiply. After doing it once, that shading was translated into all three variants (layers). This system is much easier and faster. Now I see why LavenderTowne does it.

Apparently there is also a Boo variant named Boosette that looks really cool and I want to really try it. It will be fun playing around with making the poses plus it will fit with the Halloween season.

That will be all for now.

Hasta la proxima,

DarkCloudXERO Let’sDraw Episode 2 Featherine Augustus Aurora

It seems like I can make videos much faster having finished the base work. But they still take a good bit of time…

Luckily I have this one done and I have finished most of my school work so I should finally have some time to work on some personal artwork (oh yeah and spring break is next week)!.

Video requested by: Ayoub Barakat

reference picture: https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/40750071082/in/dateposted-public/

Didn’t get any special instructions for this video so there really isn’t any commentary (aside from the introduction, this one blunder during the video and the ending). If you guys have any questions let me know.
Whenever I don’t get special instructions I will just re-draw some of the official work that is out there.

Music used is vaporwave and Future Funk. I tried contacting the artist but they haven’t replied. I’ve also notice that some videos have been removed by the original record labels that these songs were sampled from. So this video might get taken down. For now it is just a test, so this music format might change.

Videos aren’t monetized and while uploading I already got claimed, but it seems like I can keep the video up, though they will make whatever monetization this video makes. So whatever ads appear aren’t placed by me.

Music can be found here (formated as Artist – Album):

YUNG BAE – Bae: Side B
https://yungbaebae.bandcamp.com/album/bae-side-b

YUNG BAE – BA3

A series of videos where I help people draw. I make these videos on requests. So if you need help drawing someone or something, leave a message.
