Classmates Tomoko and Yuri V2

Here is another Re:do painting. This one was originally done in march 2022 I think. I had it ready for a while now. But a couple of days ago, after working on some other paintings I made some more edits that I think work better. I’m glad I didn’t uploaded it sooner.

If you look at the first version you can tell just how much my line art was holding me back. without them I can blend areas that are supposed to be receiving light with lighter colors. One thing I have been noticing is that adding more color to my lighting and shading adds more to my painting and makes it look less dull over all. Although I want to try working with a pallet that’s softer but that works well together. At some point I’ll upload examples of what I’m talking about.

Have you guys been keeping up with Watamote? It’s amazing. I really do hope they give an anime adaptation another try.

Yuri Tamura Listening in the snow

Today’s Pixiv theme was earphones, I wanted to make a winter painting. So I combined both ideas. The subject is Yuri Tamura. She is often seen wearing her earbuds so I felt this was a great fit. Although I can’t really tell since the manga is black and white, but her earbuds are most likely white huh? I felt black would fit better in this painting though. I wasted more time coming up with the concept than actually painting it feels like.

I added some snow to the platform but that’s probably cleaned up properly before it get’s piled up in big cities right? Oh well, let’s just call it artistic liberty.

Just when I was about to finish most of the painting I decided to add Yuri’s hand holding one of her earbuds. I think it adds more to the scene. One other thing to note is that when I do full digital paintings I feel they look good without outlines, but when I add them in they look better somehow. I’ll have to keep experimenting with this.

Winter Classes Tomoko and Yuri

This painting is done using the line art I made for the first day of Inktober 2021. I kinda wanted a winter setting but the class setting kinda limited that. Even so, I really like the lighting that came from the window. I erased some sections of the lineart on Yuri but overall it was left unedited. I’ve notice another increase in speed when painting. Here’s to painting more throughout the year.

I really want to paint Tomoko in her “land mind” makeup…

Inktober 2021 Day 07

I forgot what chapter I last read so I decided to go back and re-read a couple of chapters. Among them was ch. 186.2 where Yuri is wearing a happi for their school festival stall. Something about seeing her squatting like a yanki looking bored was really aesthetic to me. In fact, there are a couple other Watamote ideas that sparked from me reading these chapters. I really won’t have any lack of drawing ideas.

Inktober 2021 Day 01

I had completely forgotten about Inktober until I posted the first drawing today just by pure chance. Luckily drawing doesn’t take me that long anymore, so posting everyday shouldn’t be a problem despite my schedule.

To start off Day one of Inktober 2021, I decided to draw Tomoko and Kuroki from Watamote. Seems like they have been regulars every year. I just quite like their friendship, similarities and contrast in their personalities.

I really need to catch up on the latest chapters, I’ll probably do it tonight.

Kuroki and Tamura Video Calling

I finally got a chance to read some manga again, one of them being one of my favorites. Watamote. I quite like the cultural festival arc and the way some characters are being given some more attention and growth.

This piece though is based on volume 17 chapter 167 where Tomoko and Yuri are both studying with each other but their antisocial personalities make some rather humorous moments.

Storm Tomoko Tamura

Running a bit late again, but somehow managed to finish. This is the colored version of the ink drawing that I did for day 17 of Inktober 2020.

While I was painting, I took that opportunity to also fix some issues regarding the sizes of hands, arms and head sizes (among other things). This time I didn’t use a reference for the colors aside from just looking at what the Kuroki residence looks like and modified the colors based on the color theme that I decided to go for. Looking at the cover art for chapter 183, it seems like the typhoon completely soaked Tomoko and Yuri. With that in mind, I decided to make Yuri have wet clothes as well. Rainy season will be starting soon or it has begun in some places, so I think this piece will fit that well.

Inktober 2020 17 Storm Tomoko and Yuri

Short on time and yet I was crazy enough to make a drawing with a background anyway… It’s a shame I couldn’t ink it. If you have been keeping up with Watamote there is a cute chapter where Tamura visits Tomoko despite a typhoon forming. Although knowing Tamura, it is because there is a typhoon that she decided to visit. When I saw the prompt for today (storm), I came to the conclusion that I would draw them coming back from the store. I hope to finish it once I have more time. Still haven’t decided on how to go about it though, inked, colored?

When I saw the prompt for today I was thinking of doing something generic like a person clasping their hands but I had a better (and funnier) idea. What about a drawing of Tomoko finally having some friends.
I really love the way the story has been going. I always enjoyed the cringe aspect of the story since loners know firsthand what Tomoko feels, thinks and does in order to get by. But I also really love the way she has developed over the years and has managed to even start making really close friends. There truly is hope out there, even for Tomoko.
