"A Hopeless Dream Chaser"
I forgot what chapter I last read so I decided to go back and re-read a couple of chapters. Among them was ch. 186.2 where Yuri is wearing a happi for their school festival stall. Something about seeing her squatting like a yanki looking bored was really aesthetic to me. In fact, there are a couple other Watamote ideas that sparked from me reading these chapters. I really won’t have any lack of drawing ideas.

I had completely forgotten about Inktober until I posted the first drawing today just by pure chance. Luckily drawing doesn’t take me that long anymore, so posting everyday shouldn’t be a problem despite my schedule.
To start off Day one of Inktober 2021, I decided to draw Tomoko and Kuroki from Watamote. Seems like they have been regulars every year. I just quite like their friendship, similarities and contrast in their personalities.
I really need to catch up on the latest chapters, I’ll probably do it tonight.

I’m quite enjoying these latest chapters of Watamote and the depth they are giving to the side characters. What was a greater surprise to me was that the attention was directed towards Futaki, aka Emoji mkII. I always liked when she would appear every once in a while so this better look at her character and how she takes gaming super seriously to the point of training is somehow super motivational. For those of us who have a passion we take seriously, this is very relatable. And of course, I’m glad that things are making Koharu Minami look deeper into her personality and her actions. Hopefully she will grow as a person and her relationships with people will truly be genuine.
I decided to paint a scene of them in the weight room since it’s both comical and also a special place for this odd pair-up.

I finally got a chance to read some manga again, one of them being one of my favorites. Watamote. I quite like the cultural festival arc and the way some characters are being given some more attention and growth.
This piece though is based on volume 17 chapter 167 where Tomoko and Yuri are both studying with each other but their antisocial personalities make some rather humorous moments.

Running a bit late again, but somehow managed to finish. This is the colored version of the ink drawing that I did for day 17 of Inktober 2020.

While I was painting, I took that opportunity to also fix some issues regarding the sizes of hands, arms and head sizes (among other things). This time I didn’t use a reference for the colors aside from just looking at what the Kuroki residence looks like and modified the colors based on the color theme that I decided to go for. Looking at the cover art for chapter 183, it seems like the typhoon completely soaked Tomoko and Yuri. With that in mind, I decided to make Yuri have wet clothes as well. Rainy season will be starting soon or it has begun in some places, so I think this piece will fit that well.

I quite liked the outfit Masaki used during the amusement park fieldtrip. Looking at the cover for volume 13 I got the chance to see the color scheme. Although I’m still not sure of the backpacks full color scheme.

That’s number two down. I might just be able to finish the third painting, but we’ll see.
While Hina is having fun with her fantasy anime life coming to life, I can totally see Tamura being annoyed at seeing Hina get close to Tomoko and enjoying her passive aggressive tendencies.

The second of the Christmas drawings I have inked in the countdown to Christmas. In a lot of ways, Hina’s wishes have been getting granted right before graduation huh? Good thing she decided to show her true self more.

I had this idea a couple of days ago but was worried that I wouldn’t have enough time to draw it. Luckily I was able to make it. For today’s prompt we have buddy. It’s strange, but Tomoko’s and Yoshida’s relationship reminds me of G Gundam. You know, how like in the show they communicated through their fists (although it’s just Yoshida actually punching, then again Tomoko attacks using even more dangerous moves). I really loved Yoshida’s look and segments from the amusement park chapters.

Short on time and yet I was crazy enough to make a drawing with a background anyway… It’s a shame I couldn’t ink it. If you have been keeping up with Watamote there is a cute chapter where Tamura visits Tomoko despite a typhoon forming. Although knowing Tamura, it is because there is a typhoon that she decided to visit. When I saw the prompt for today (storm), I came to the conclusion that I would draw them coming back from the store. I hope to finish it once I have more time. Still haven’t decided on how to go about it though, inked, colored?
