Goku Bulma Happy New Year 2022

Happy New Year!

Feliz Año Nuevo!

あけましておめでとう!

Managed to finish it. Went for a more anime look. I didn’t quite like the way last years version looked. Looking at it again though, I’m feel it just needs to be refined and it can look much better.

In any case, I wanted to just draw from memory this time to come up with the scenario and poses. I wanted the poses to be a bit more interesting. I debated on whether to have Goku swing from the awning by his tail or hanging by the counter (I of course went with the counter idea). As for Bulma I decided to have her ordering some food. I went for a pose that made it look like she was fidgeting and moving about due to the cold. I went with her outfit she used when they first met Oolong. Which is freaking cool and iconic. I just modified her socks to tights due to the weather.

This year has been something, but I feel grateful that I can still keep going and making my art. Hopefully you guys are doing well. Not much we can do but keep pushing forward. Here’s to a better year. Thank you everyone who has continuously looked at my work and liked it. I hope I can make more art that will bring some positive emotions in the future.

Queen Miyabi hatched

For the painting of Miyabi in her maid outfit I used a couple of references for the pose, one of them happened to be of Miyabi in her outfit for the Hello Project Winter 2019 Concert. I really loved the pose, the dress and the crown working together to make Miyabi look so beautiful. This time I wanted to hatch and cross hatch. The line art itself was done with my g pen and the hatching was done with my maru pen.

One more year of life 2021 Colorized

I finally colorized this drawing. I had planned to do so sooner… but I finally got to it. What I had in mind was going for a Ukiyo-e style. I went for a simple painting style and then texturized with with some layers I overlaid upon it.

Inktober 2021 Day 28 inked

When I first starting hearing Akina Nakamori I was watching her music videos and quite vividly remembered a performance where there was a Hannya mask in the background. It took me a while to find the performance which I luckily managed to find. I wonder if I should have done something with the background…

Inktober 2021 Day 27

The recent photos that Sayu has been uploading are extremely beautiful. Many of them really capture the fall season (there’s so many I want to work with). I quite like the ones where she is sporting a cute mask. The pairing with the newsboy cap is a nice touch.

I was going to add some hatching to mark the darker areas and the patterns in the mask. But time was quite limited today so that will have to be another time.

Inktober 2021 Day 25

This one took a while, and it’s still not done. I remembered that in Pokemon there were three legendry’s that possesed the power of wind and thunder and a third one. I had done a bit of research at the time and learned that they were based on three Japanese Kami. Over the years I wanted to make a piece with Misaka and Kongo Mitsuko as Raijin and Fujin. After thinking a bit about Inari and learning that it’s the god of foxes, fertility and a bunch of other things plus it’s the leader of the three Kami I felt that Misaki Shokuhou would best fit this role. For various reasons. This drawing took a while since I couldn’t find readily available information about these three Kami and high resolution images of them. Then, the ones that were available came in so many variations that in the end I just decided to take some artistic liberty for some of the details.

Inktober 2021 Day 22

While looking at references for the drawings I have done so far, I felt like drawing some Sailor Moon art since the fashion there is so iconic. This time I decided to draw the titular character. I wanted a warm outfit so I combined different clothes from my references. I liked the original pose of the model arranging her hair, but since Usagi has a very peculiar style I had to accommodate for that.

I was going to have Usagi’s eyes partially opened but I liked the way they looked closed, it gives her a serene thoughtful aesthetic.

Inktober 2021 Day 21

I really want more people to watch the original DragonBall. It’s such a great series. I’ve recently started rewatching some episodes and felt the urge to draw Bulma. I really love the more rounded eyes that Toriyama used to draw in his characters. In the more recent designs, they are more like windows while before they were somewhat shaped like real eyes but enlarged and exaggerated of course.

On another note, while writing this I just noticed that Bulma is always changing her style. In every story throughout the series she is wearing a new outfit and sometimes hairstyle. I’m surprised I never really noticed that.
