While looking through my references I came upon a picture that had Don Ramon (a character from “El Chavo Del 8”, my favorite one) and Fujiwara no Mokou. This picture compared both of their expressions and grins which I found very funny.
this is the picture that I’m talking about:
And here is the drawing:
On another note, it seems like posting Pixiv links here no longer shows the full image, but I just found out I can upload images to Pinterest and they do show fully here. So Just might start doing that from now on.
I finally got the chance to see Demon Slayer about a month, a month and a half ago. On episode 10 Nezuko had a battle with a Kemari. It very quickly started to resemble Captain Tsubasa. There was even a scene where she was charging up a kick and it looked just like when Kojiro shoots his Tiger Shot. Drawn using a maru pen. At first I was going to have Kojiro in his Soccer uniform, but I felt his training outfit would look more flashy. Specially if it was open and flapping with the movement.
Just a practice piece so that I can play around more with screentones, hatching and whatnot using Clip studio Paint and Photoshop. The background is of a cool area in Downtown Denver. I made it into a screen tone using Photoshop’s filter, sketch, halftone option. I inked and then hatched it using Clip Studio. Characters are from an idea of a story I want to work on.
For the first drawing of 2021 I drew Momochi. My original plan was to paint it with watercolors but I decided to make two versions of it, an inked version and a painted one. The painted version I plan to do next. As I thought, the DVD Magazines had plenty of references for me. The upward glance she gave while travelling up the mountain was killer. It’s probably even more potent if she did that in person.
I used a mix of ink and in some sections a more diluted ink for sections I wanted to keep light but still give shadows to. This time I made sure to hatch it slower so that the end result would look cleaner. My plan is to continue doing that from now on. The process didn’t take that much longer anyway. I got really lucky that Momochi’s face wasn’t ruined actually, a huge blob of ink just poured out of my pen below her chin. Luckily that section was supposed to be blacked out and the ink didn’t spread to her face. I won’t lie, it was an agonizing 25-30 seconds while I tried to find some tissue paper to soak up the ink before it began going everywhere. I feel like the drawing wasn’t complete until I added some blush lines, I really like the end result.
Hope you guys had a great start to the year. Here’s hoping for the best.
You know, it’s a shame that Seven was pretty much forgotten after she was introduced. I really enjoyed the addition of her character and I would even go on to say she is my favorite character. They could have done some interesting stories with her and Legoshi but I guess things just end up that way sometimes. For this drawing I wanted to convey a melancholic scene but one of hope since despite Seven’s hardships she didn’t give up and continued to move forward. I drew and inked this drawing traditionally and then added the hatching and screentone using Clip Studio.
I am as usual a bit behind the times when it comes to social media but this weekend during my lunch break, my brother was telling me about a skateboarder who was really popular for a tiktok. When I was watching it today it just gave me this calming and joyful feeling. The song, the skateboarding and his facial expressions all just went well together. I just wanted to make a quick ink drawing/painting. I was exploring his instagram and he has a lot of cool stuff. I’m glad things are going well for him. Cool to see a chill skateboarding cholo.
Today’s theme was blade, there were many options but for some reason I wanted to draw Makoto Shishio from Rurouni Kenshin. Definitely one of the best villains. His character design is also really unique and awesome. One of the coolest techniques he has is the Tsui no Hiken: Kaguzuchi, you know, the one where he creates a swirling fire stream around his sword. I looked at the manga and the anime and they both had a forward view of Shishio performing the technique. So I wanted to change it up a bit and draw Shishio from the side. Since I had a bit more time today I decided to add some hatching and inking. Hopefully I can do some more in the drawings to come.
Right now I’m in a Hello Project art mood, I can’t help but want to draw the members whenever I want to try out a new style. But I figured I should try to draw some new subjects, so I was looking through my reference folders and decided on drawing a Honda CR-X which I quite like. Once I had the line art done I decided to try out a new shading style which consists of just laying it down with parallel lines. I quite liked the aesthetic of this style. But once I was done I wasn’t too sure what else I should do with it. Then I started thinking about maybe implementing someone in front of the car. Then it hit me, I could use that Sayu picture I drew where she has short hair. Once I cleaned up the background I resized Sayu so that she would fit the size of the CR-X and well… I really love the way it came out. I guess things were just meant to be. Somehow that short hair and hat make her fit that racer look.
I had drawn this back in I believe June 3rd of this year. Back then I had no idea of how to color it. I did at some point wanted to make it with gray tones but couldn’t figure it out. Today on my Youtube recommended’s list was a video featuring the art of tourniiquet, this one here.
After seeing it I decided to give it another try. I liked the way it turned out but wanted to add more contrast and texture somewhere so I eventually ended up using some paper texture for the background. I really like the way it came out.
After working on the Nier piece I remembered how fun it was to draw using ink. I wanted to give the shooting battle between Hyuga’s tiger shot and Tsubasa’s drive shot a try. I drew Hyuga and Tsubasa using my g pen and maru pen then I added the power lines using Clip Studio. It took me a while to come up with the poses. If I were to redo it I would have Tsubasa bend his upper body further forward.
I’ve been playing with this idea for quite a while now when I played both Nier games and learned about the drift mechanic. It has also been a while since I have done a traditional piece so finally decided to give it a try. I first drew the boars since that would be the hardest (since I haven’t drawn one before. Once I saw a couple of videos of the boars from each game though it went smoothly. One major mistake was the size of Nier and 2B in terms of the boars (the boars are much bigger). but I decided to go ahead anyway. I knew for sure I wanted to draw Emil, Kaine, 9S and A2 but decided to add Grimoire Weiss and the Pods when I noticed the spaces on the sides. Grimoire Weiss had a lot of details and took quite a bit of effort.
When I had the line art finished, I contemplated what I would do regarding the inking process. I eventually decided on inking, and hatching certain parts and then adding screentone for the shading process. I have Clip Studio but haven’t really used it so I was a bit weary of it, but after playing around with it I got the hang of it. I absolutely love the screentone options. When I was satisfied with the screentones I was finally able to place draw in the sound effects. It wouldn’t be Initial D without it.
