Inktober 2022 04 Goku lineart

For day 4 I have decided to draw Goku. There was the meme of Goku in his drip which I thought was hilarious. I could care less of the Supreme brand, but what was fun about Toriyama was that artwork often showcased the Dragon Ball characters in trendy outfits. I always loved seeing Goku in different outfits. I think the most recent example in current Dragon Ball was the snow outfit used in the Dragon Ball Super Broly movie.

This time I decided to make Goku’s hair slightly less triangular, I guess making it somewhat soft. I also wanted to try out a different eye design. I finally got the chance to hatch for this drawing. But maybe I should play around with thinner lines next time I do a simple hatching technique.

Santa Airi 2021

Airi recently released some photos of her as a Santa that I found both cute and fun, so I had the idea of making a painting using that idea.

I’ve been working on this painting for a couple of days now. I first drew the line art with a combination of my brush and my g pen for Airi’s base body, not including her clothes. I did this because I feel I make clothes look to stiff with the pen. For the background I used a lighter mixture of my ink while Airi herself was inked using a more concentrated ink mixture.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been playing around with the shortcut keys I feel I need most to make paintings more efficiently. I’m really glad I did because it made the painting process flow much smoother. The painting was much brighter but I feel this darker amber atmosphere fits the scene a whole lot better.

Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy Holidays! I think I’m going to take a three day break and just chill for a while. Hope you guys have a great time.

Airi Matsuri

I wanted to just draw a quick brush painting because I was looking at Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork. There were these pictures that Airi posted where she was dressed in a happi and wrote a small stage. It’s a really fun subject. Line size variation was a bit tough to control when the ink is too watered down. I guess using a smaller brush would quickly fix this, but I’ve seen other artists do a lot with just one brush. I’ll have to practice this a bit more.

Ai no Dangan Momoko Motorcycle

This painted version of this drawing:

has been waiting for about a month now to be uploaded. Actually looking at the date, it seems I painted this back in September 6… I had something planned to accompany this piece but I could always add that later.

I wanted a late 80s/ early 90s look. I wanted to emphasize the speed so I manipulated the tilt of the median and buildings to give that effect. Looking at it now, adding some wind lines in the foreground will sell that effect even more. I’ll probably add that to the accompaniment I mentioned above.

I just remembered that it took me a good while to find the model of the motorcycle (it was specially hard since I don’t really know much about them). For those interested in knowing the motorcycle used in the Ai no Dangan MV, it was a Honda VFR 1200F.

Skull Knight Loss

This was originally drawn for Inktober 2020 day 31, but I wasn’t happy with the proportions.
It can be seen here:

I fixed those using PhotoShop and fixed a couple of areas. The hatching was done using Clip Studio.

Skulll Knight’s story was already sad after seeing the brief flash back from one of the latest chapters. But it just got even more sad because we won’t know any more about him due to the tragic loss of Kentaro Miura. We will always have to wonder what his ultimate goals and journey would entail.

Momoko Tsugunaga Caligraphy Brush X Digital

It’s been almost a month since I had painted this piece, I can’t believe I have been pushing it back by that much…

The reference comes from Momoko’s final photobook.

The ink painting used can be seen here:

This follows my current practice working with ink brushes, the translucence it contains and the application of paint and how it interacts with it. I have a couple of other pieces that I can use to continue this practice. It’s amazing, but it does have it’s limitations on what can be done (coloring wise). On the other hand, the effects and textures are really unique and interesting.
