This is a colored version of the 9th inktober piece I drew in 2019. I wasn’t too sure what the coloring style would be, but it eventually evolved into this one.

This is a colored version of the first inktober piece of 2019. I was wondering what kind of coloring styles would work with a piece that has quite a bit of hatching. But first I wanted to come up with a background. Since this is a piece of myself I decided to make the background my studio. I wanted to work with a simple background but still keep the idea of what it’s supposed to be. I would say it’s like impressionism. It was quite fun trying to recreate my room and liked the way it came out. Now the next thing is trying to match the painting in the background. I decided to go with a simple painting style like that of anime. When I was done painting I noticed that the colors were much too vibrant and dark so I went and modified the colors and vibrancy in Photoshop. I quite like the way it came out.

I drew this back in September 30th of 2019, I just didn’t have the confidence to paint it till now.
I originally came up with the concept of this piece after I saw the Dora the Explorer movie. She had all sorts of weapons in her backpack and at one point even used a yoyo as a weapon. And since at that time I was getting into the Sukeban Deka shows and movies I ended up coming up with this idea of painting this crossover.
For the painting itself I decided to use the cover illustrations from the books which are absolutely beautiful. They helped me push in terms of colors so that they didn’t look flat. I quite like the way it came out. I hope to improve further from here on out.

This is actually the last drawing of 2019 and the first one as well as painting of 2020. I’ve been wanting to do a piece of Airi Suzuki for a while now. I wanted to also practice with my Holbein watercolors as well as try out my Fabriano paper which contains 25% cotton. This is my first time using hot press papers. They are quite smooth. The paper it self didn’t buckle as much as the watercolor paper I have been using from Canson. The Holbein watercolors go on quite smoothly. Thinking about it now I have been doing a lot of first right off the bat this year. I finally tried out the mop brush I bought in mid 2019 but have yet to use till just now. I’m amazed at how much area I can cover with it and how even I can do so. So far I really like the way the supplies I’m using react work. Will have to make more tests to see how much more they can be pushed.
For the painting I decided to make a simple 80s anime style. It was really hard to stop myself from adding more to it (really hard). But it was worth holding myself back because I like the way it turned out. The background color was too close to the skins so Airi looked a bit bland, but once I added more yellow to the background the whole picture and Airi came to life and looked so much better. I do want to do another piece of Airi but push to a more detailed painting with more colors. I just love the way the Holbein watercolors get painted on the paper and look when combined.

I wanted to give this painting another try and see if I can add to it. I think it looks much better now. I used a combination of my gansai tambi and Nicker Poster Color paints.

This was drawn originally on July 17 2019 and painted on July 19 2019. I wanted to try out TES‘s style again. I first drew it out with a copic W7, I exaggerated certain features and simplified the colors. I found that using copic as the line art is quite amazing for not just digital painting but also with mediums like watercolors. It’s just a shame they stopped making their color multiliners (should have bought some when I had the chance). I tried using them with my g pen but the dry off on the tip rather quickly. I guess I’ll have to use their pen refill system and create my own.

I was a bit scared I wasn’t going to be able to make it this year, and to think I was thinking about making two pieces for today…
I am a bit surprised at how quick I was able to finish it in three days (I usually take a week). I was struggling deciding on the colors and the style I would use. When it comes to watercolors I really love Little Thunder‘s art style. I wanted to emulate it but I always end up doing it a bit different. I have to paint more so that it all becomes a natural process.
Merry Christmas everyone.

This is a painting for the drawing I did for inktober of this year (day 30). I wanted to do a parody of Kiki’s Delivery Service with Bulma as Kiki. Most of it uses the same style and colors but I incorporated elements from Dragon ball. Such changes are substituting Jiji for Tama, changing the font to Capsule Corp in the window reflection, using a mitsubishi car transporting Muten Roshi and Goku and Lunch as the woman walking in the street. Colors aren’t quite the same but look similar enough. I quite like how it turned out.
What do you guys think?

This was first drawn for inktober of this year. I wanted to warm up and try painting again. I want to try and work with backgrounds.
Here it is.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a set of Holbein watercolors back in September. I bought the 108 color set. Sad to say but I was too busy to paint more than one painting since I got them. Hopefully I can do another one soon. I debuted the paints with a painting of Sayumi Michishige wearing a long sleeve shirt. I also decided to use my lightbox to trace and ink/hatch/crosshatch to see how it would look.
It was painted originally on September 11, 2019 and drawn originally on September 18, 2019.
Combined, done today:
I should have more time for a couple of weeks now, I’m aiming to do more art during this time.

This was originally painted on August 9, 2019.
But I did edit quite a few details today.
I actually drew the underdrawing of Sakuya on May 10, 2012 with color pencils (video can be found here). The style is based on Banpai Akira’s style used for the Koumajou Densetsu: Scarlet Symphony game. I like the way I drew it at the time but wanted to repaint it when I had better skills. I also wanted to add a background.
It was about 7 years in the making but I finally gave it a shot. I used a reference picture of a mansion as the underpainting base. The photo only showed a section of the room so I had to learn and make up the rest of the room based on the information I could see. It took a lot of time to finish the background but I did learn a lot. By the time I had painted Sakuya and the background I was mentally drained and wanted to take a break and move on to another piece. I noticed I made her arms and hands quite long and the hair too big/long? But I decided to come back to it at a later date. I’ve been swamped with the end of the semester schoolwork and I’m pretty much almost done now, so I wanted to upload some more artwork.
This is the background used (awesome, seems I can post internet photos from pinterest here now):

I was about to just upload it as it was but decided to edit the defects today. I shortened her hair and changed the dimensions of her hand and arm. I also worked with the lighting on her body to try and have her fit more to the background.
Here is the final painting:

This was originally drawn in September 28, 2018. I also painted it beforehand on October 1st, 2018 (seen here, quite embarrassing looking at it now).
I didn’t quite like the way I painted it the last time. So on April 29, 2019 after practicing with color and painting I decided to give it another try. At that point I stumbled upon the works of Takato Yamamoto. I fell in love with his work and use of simple colors to create amazing pieces. That’s when I decided to try and paint Booette in a simple color scheme with a minimal amount of colors. Although the styles are no where near the same and I was still learning about how colors interact with each other, I really liked the way it turned out. I wanted to add more color to it, but I stopped my self as best I could. Now that I feel more confident with color I wonder how it would turn out?
