This background will be part of a remake that I made back in 2019. Wow, that’s what in the range of 3-4 years… Time sure is flying.

It’s funny, now that my skills have gotten a bit better I have been going back to old art pieces and see what I can do with them now. And in Pixiv there is currently a contest where they want us to upload redo’s of old artwork to showcase one’s growth. Somehow this all came together at the same time. I’ll be uploading some more artwork throughout April.
Working with blues is still a bit tough for me so I want to do some more later this year.
As for this art piece, I edited the line art to change the proportions and angles. Once I had that edited I came up with the background so I could come up with the color theme of 2B.
I felt it would be a shame if I didn’t have a version without her blindfold.

Here’s a return of an old piece that I feel could be made better. For now this is the background.

Old version:
I wasn’t too happy with the previous version of this line art I made for Inktober 2022 day 17. Although looking at the reference photo I originally used, I now feel I should have exaggerated the angle and the ratio of the head and hips. Because I didn’t, it doesn’t really look like a down to top viewpoint. It’s just slightly implied. But I’ll play with that idea next time.

Here is the Colored version of my Airi Rescue illustration. I’m uploading two versions. The second version has some static added to it to replicate the quality of a magazine print. One things I like in old anime are the glow effects they do with beams, so I wanted to incorporate that in this illustration. Adding some outer glow to the beam and adding some noise to the glow gave it a cool effect.
I want to convert this drawing to an anime frame at some point. You know, like those mid point frames when the anime had to go to commercials.

Here’s Akina’s painting but in color this time. Decided to go with a red theme this time. Looking at it now, it might look cool with some font displaying the name of the song (Kinku).

It would be a shame if I didn’t do more with this drawing. So decided to keep practicing with screen tone. The screen tone gives a new look for sure. I like both versions though. A simple black and white just looks so clean and pops. Adding screen tone though allows one to add more depth and transition between values. So if used correctly it can really enhance a drawing.

I actually had a version of this drawing ready to go, but I’m glad I never uploaded it. Since I had a chance to rest on it and reflect on what I could do with it, I ended up adding some new ideas to it which I think look better. Before it was a bit flat but now it now looks like a title page at the beginning of a chapter. The beam saber looked a bit bland too, so I added some outer glow to it and also some grain so that it blended roughly with the background. Clip Studio has some cool stuff to draw manga, but it also lacks in others which is why I like combining it with Photoshop. The only bad thing about that is that the screen tone layers get screwed up and I can’t edit them again. There are ways to just make a quick new layer to edit if necessary, but that’s a real pain if I have to do multiple.
I wanted to download a stars brush to do them quickly but I ended up just painting them by hand. It wasn’t as bad as I thought. I like that rough look to them that the real g pen from Clip Studio gives it. The font it self I ripped from the music video.
Here’s the music video by the way. It’s a really fun one, I love it:

I was planning on uploading this on Friday. But it just so happens that there was a prompt on Pixiv for pink hair, so why not upload this now. I uploaded a version with screen tone and one without. The screen tone adds good bit of texture. I like it a lot.

This was originally drawn for Inktober 2022 day 21. Last time I uploaded a version that I photographed so I had to scan it before I got to work on it further. But I forgot to erase the pencil lines so I had a bit more work then I wanted right of the start. I wasn’t too sure how I wanted to add the screen tone so that was made up as I worked. The eyes of the original drawing were a bit off so I edited them a bit. Other than that, the whole drawing was kept almost in tact. Looking at it now, I’m so glad I don’t have to draw the surrounding effect lines by hand. Clip Studio is such a life saver.

I was wondering how I was going about when converting the black and white rough to color, but it was easier than I thought. First I changed the hue and then I made a quick and rough background. I wanted to add in the cityscape but as I kept painting I felt this minimalized background worked quite well. From there adding texture and colors to Godzilla was actually quite straightforward. At some point I felt having three versions of Godzilla in different stages of attack. While I was painting I felt the head and eyes were still derpy and wrong. So I had to make various edits including changing the eye position, size and shape as well as resizing Godzilla’s whole head.
While looking at Gozilla’s first beam attack, I notice a whole lot more details such as light particles appearing when preparing his beams. It’s a shame that we probably won’t be seeing more of Shin Godzilla. He overtook my favorite position from the 90s Godzilla.

This one was in the chamber for a while now. I’m also planning to paint it with another background. But I still haven’t decided what the scene will be. This time I wanted to try out color screen tone. But I went about it the wrong way. A future piece I finally learned the proper way of using Clip Studio and man has it been so much easier.
Color really hits different. Though black and white also has it’s charm.
