XP-Pen Artist 24 Pro Lagging and a possible Fix

Why is my pen lagging on my XP-Pen Artist 24 Pro?

Quick answer for those who don’t want to read, disconnect anything on the USB ports that are on the XP-Pen tablet (The one’s on top of all the other cable ports).

So for a couple of weeks I’ve had to work with a sluggish/lagging tablet. And let me tell you, if recording my process was already slowing me down. This was so much worse. I didn’t know what was going on but I powered through it. But this week I decided to finally try and fix it. All my drivers were up to date, so were Windows updates. Re-installing the XP-Pen driver and art programs also didn’t help. I even went and bought some more ram sticks after closing as many internet tabs but seeing no change. The ram also didn’t help. Then I figured it would be a virus perhaps. So I erased everything on my hard drive and reinstalled Windows.

Now with a clean install it should work now right? No. It was still lagging. I even changed the canvas size but that didn’t help. Heck, even just testing the pen input was making it lag. Changing any settings within the art programs that were giving other artist problems was also a no go.

Feeling like I would just have to get used to it, I remembered that a couple of weeks ago I added my keyboard and mouse to the USB ports on the XP-Pen. In theory (I thought) they are only going through a passthrough so it shouldn’t affect the tablet. But at this point I just had to try anything. And much to my surprise, that’s what it was. Being able to paint with no lag was amazing.

I’m pretty sure I ‘m sending all data through the USB C cable, so either the port on the motherboard or the cable itself is not able to move the needed bandwidth thus the lagging issues. So if you have tried everything else and are still seeing lag issues try this possible fix.

Miya Maid V2

I recently talked about how my monitors were not calibrated correctly so my colors and values were off. I’m going back and trying to fix some of the previous paintings I have done. Miyabi dressed as a maid is of course one of those paintings.

XP Pen Reconstructed Masterpiece Bandaged Van Gogh

This will be the actual entry to the contest, now that it’s completely painted. I debated with going with a more painterly style or a more anime like style. After playing around a bit, I decided to go with the anime style. I tried to keep the same color scheme. I added some static to the background which for some reason intensified when I resized the whole painting to a smaller size. I contemplated whether to add some blood to the piece but decided against it…

For the background, if I remember correctly (I think I learned this in art class when I was in middle school) Van Gogh was a fan of Japan. A bit of an Otaku. So I thought it would be fun to play around with that idea with the paintings in the background.

XP Pen Reconstructed Bandaged Van Gogh Lineart

There’s a contest currently going on by XP Pen which I hope to enter. This line art has been waiting for me to paint it for a couple of days, weeks? It’s been a while… But I should be able to start painting today.

The theme is “Reconstruct Art Masterpiece”, meaning that they want artists to get a famous masterpiece from anywhere in the world and do a parody of it, modernize, change it to our style etc. Seems like a fun theme. There doesn’t seem to be any restrictions when it comes to the number of entries, so I will probably make one or two more. We’ll see. I went with an E-girl take on Van Gogh’s bandaged ear self portrait. Except this time it’s a modern selfie.

Hasta la proxima,
