Ryoga Forest Hike

Crazy but Spring is coming to a close, I have one more Spring painting before we move on to the Summer.

The original idea for this painting was from an Inktober drawing I did back in 2024 day 8. I was a bit overwhelmed throughout the whole process but eventually got into the flow of things.

I wonder how long it took Ryoga this time to get back home?

Forest Path

When I first started I was a bit overwhelmed due to all the details. It got to the point that I had to take a week or two after I started. But once I came back to it, it wasn’t too bad.

Summer Park Background

Due to certain circumstances I’m falling a bit behind have art ready to be uploaded. But hopefully things get better soon. This painting I decided to work on today after I was done with other obligations.

This background is actually a RE:do of an old painted I made years ago. I think it looks much better now.

Meimi Spring

It’s time to reveal the main subject that corresponds to this background. It’s Meimi Tamura. The reference I used is from her music video Butai. I really love the song and music video it self. There are many scenes I want to give a try in painting but that will be for another time.

Here is the music video, do check it out:

We have come to the end of Spring, my second favorite season. I managed to make a few seasonal paintings to celebrate but I had more ideas that i didn’t get to do this time. Hopefully I will manage to do better next year. Next paintings will be about the Summer (my least favorite season due to the heat).

Cloudy Lake

Been wanting to paint this for quite a bit now. This week has been quite rainy and tomorrow it will apparently be raining all day so it also fits the occasion. The background itself wont be finished till I add the main subject though.

Mountain Snow Man Background

Mountain Snow Man Background

This is a RE:do of an old painting that had some really good potential but was quite rough. I changed the aspect ratio and added more details that I thought would work well. The mountains were quite different than the anime in the old version. I wonder why I changed them? So in this version I made them closer to how they are supposed to look like.

Hot summer day Noriko Takaya

I wanted to try coloring in the anime style again. This time I chose Noriko Takaya from Gun Buster. The original line art was done for inktober 2021 day 18.

It can be seen here:

For that version of the drawing I was going for a fall scene, but since we are now in these sweltering heat. I changed it to a summer scene instead. I changed Noriko’s outfit and leaf to fit the new theme.

Background rainy

This is the background for another painting in progress. I want to do more pieces that capture the rainy weather we are experiencing where I live and the green foliage that has bloomed because of it.

This has been painted with Corel Painter.

Cherry Blossom street background

This is going to be the background for a future piece. But I decided to take a bit of detour and come back to it a little later. I’ll decide then if I want to polish it a bit more (the background) or not. I am still thinking of the composition of the actual subjects though, so I might have to edit this background quite a bit. We’ll see.

Kenshin graveyard visit

Last week I started the line art for this painting (finally had some time to work on it a bit on Monday night and the rest on Tuesday night). I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do so I was just sketching whatever came out. I then had the idea of having Kenshin look up, which gave him a sorrowful feeling. I then wanted some movement so I made his hair to blow in the wind. I was surprised how quickly the drawing came out, I used to take hours just to draw something even if it was simple line art like this one. From there I was looking at reference pictures of what I could use as the background. I found this really cool one of a shrine (turned out to be one from Nagoya when I researched it) but then I started thinking that a shrine doesn’t mean it’s a graveyard (plus it wasn’t in Kyoto) so once I had to work on the space right behind Kenshin I looked around google and found some references of graveyards. I used the impressionist brush for the texture but it looked really weird compared to everything else. But it turned out to be an easy fix when I started glazing and blending the graveyard pillars and steps. I thought of adding writing on them but that would take too much time to research, come up with and paint the intricacies of the kanji. So I just made some brush strokes that from a distance might look like actual writing but they have no actual meaning, they are just scribbles. The overall look I wanted to go for was the style used in the 90s anime which I believe holds up very well. Specially during the Kyoto arc.

Just as I was about to upload this painting I noticed that I hadn’t painted in Kenshin’s iconic cross shaped scar. Good thing I was too tired yesterday to upload it or he would have gone with out it.
