Inktober 2025 day 27 Sayumi Michishige

Working on the knit sweater sure took some time… I decided to try out different designs only to just outline it with a brush pen. This time I decided to try out my dip pens with the paper meant for ink that I mentioned yesterday. And sure enough, using the paper that is meant for you know. What it’s meant for, actually works. It not only resists getting it’s fibers cut, but it also doesn’t absorb as much ink as other papers. I’ll have to play around with it more. But so far I’m liking this Canson Pen & Ink paper.

Although I like how this drawing of Sayumi came out overall, It’s just a shame that I wasn’t used to the Pentel ink brush pens (which I decided to finally try out). I have a shorter wider brush and a slightly longer but thinner brush that I learned I like best, just too late. Seems like the wider brush is to cover wider areas, but I need the versatility of the thinner brush for my style. But now I know.

Sayumi Ski Goggles

Here is the final painting, there are two versions. One with lighting and one without. And despite the effort I put into the background, most of it is covered up. Hehe.

Sayumi Ski Goggles rough draft

In focusing on painting and trying to understand color I started neglecting form and proportions. So it’s time I go back to basics and start drawing again. I’ve notice I find it much easier and natural to do so traditionally. I’ve been feeling a bit off so hopefully I can get back in the groove soon.

Inktober 2024 Day 11

Limited time today again so I decided to do another portrait today, but in exchange I decided to add more details. I had the option to either hatch or ink. And although inking has it’s appeal I decided to go with hatching. When it comes to hair, following the contours just looks better. But on the flip side it takes a while to do. And when working with dip pens, one has the danger of spacing out and smearing the ink. But it’s so worth it.

Looking back at past ink drawings such as my previous attempts at drawing Sayumi Michishige, I have improved quite a bit. I always feel a power up every Inktober.

Sayu-Mask

Despite the end of last year being quite dry, the start of this year has given us quite a bit of snow. I quite like the athmosphere this creates which is why I decided to use it for the painting this time around. The line art was done for Inktober 2021 day 27 which can be seen here:

The model for this painting is Sayumi Michishige. I really love the outfit and colors. I debated on how I wanted Sayu’s colors to be overall. Light and faded, or darker, affected by the scenery. I opted for the darker route.

Reference photo of Sayu can be seen here (7th Photo):

Sayumi Temple Visit 2022

This drawing is based on the photo of Sayumi visiting the temple this year.

Assuming I translated it correctly, this was for a January photoshoot. Having drawn a fortune during this shoot, she drew “Daikishi” (Super Good Luck). I really do wish her the best. I’m also really enjoying her Uruma city videos. I hope more cities invite her to be showcased.

Sayumi 2nd Microsoft Surface Pro 5

I’ve been wanting to paint Sayu in this outfit ever since it was uploaded. She kind of reminds me of a Team Rocket member.

This is the second Microsoft Surface Pro 5 painting. This time around working with the surface felt a lot smoother. The next test will consist of me working in portrait mode. I know it works since I tried to see what would happen if I tilted the whole screen, although it did make Corel crash… I’ll have to play with it a bit more.

Inktober 2021 Day 27

The recent photos that Sayu has been uploading are extremely beautiful. Many of them really capture the fall season (there’s so many I want to work with). I quite like the ones where she is sporting a cute mask. The pairing with the newsboy cap is a nice touch.

Here’s the reference used (the 7th photo):

I was going to add some hatching to mark the darker areas and the patterns in the mask. But time was quite limited today so that will have to be another time.

Hasta la proxima,
