Athena Asamiya Idol V2

The original version was uploaded back in November 2020, but I feel that it was lacking. I now feel a bit more confident to go back to it and update it with my current skills. Not only did I change some colors but I changed the sleeves and chest area. The background was also touched up. The right eye (what appears to us as the left eye) was drawn too far down the face so Athena looked a bit deformed. Aside from that, I also changed the gaze so it appeared that she was looking at us. I should seriously actually render paintings more, I’ve been leaving them too rough.

Rei Hino Sweater outfit

I’ve been focusing on just trying to work with color, but it seems that my poses have been a little to stiff and static. This was brought to my attention by my brother. With that in mind, I think it might not be a bad idea to work with poses that are in motion or at the very least interesting. I’ve been having the urge to paint Rei Hino for some time now. So last Friday I finally decided to do so. It snowed quite hard so I chose an outfit fit the weather. Funnily enough, today it started snowing again. I also wanted to try out a more vibrant coloring style for the hair because I really liked the way it looked on this painting of Sayu I made and a reference of Sailor Saturn that was painted by @666pigeon

Athena Asamiya Idol

When it came to painting Athena I was imagining some colors I had seen in what I think was a promotional video of Sonoko Kawai. But when I was trying to find that video I failed. More than likely it got deleted or it might have been someone else but I’m pretty sure it was Sonoko. This is one of the reasons I have started to just back up any videos that I like and that interest me.
With that option out of the question I remembered I had some JR Christmas commercials that had similar colors to what I wanted. I ended up using the commercial featuring Eri Fukatsu. Getting the skin tone correctly took a couple of tries since I hadn’t used it before. I should definitely play around with such lighting more.

Misato Katsuragi Stylin at Work

While I was looking through some reference pictures last Friday, I came upon a picture of a model that looked a lot like Misato. While I was looking at the source of the photo it seems that the person in the photo is a model by the name Angela Yeung Wing, known as Angelababy. Seems like she is a Hong Kong based model, actor and singer. Here is the reference photo I used: https://www.instagram.com/p/BKQVP9NgAIs/

I was amazed at how fast I was going when I was painting her, but I then struggled with her face and hair. But after giving it a time to step away I noticed that some areas were just not in the right values. What helped was putting away the reference picture and just working with the painting I had. Not only did that help fix the issues but I also worked faster. I should probably try that out more later.
