Asuka Kato Ramen

I finally painted my Asuka Kato drawing. This was first drawn for Inktober 2021 day 15. I felt Asuka was too lonely so I added Hina and Uchi. Thinking back, I guess I was imagining Asuka eating in a Ramen Stall or something. But I really liked the Ramen chapter so I decided to have them go back this time in winter. I accidently painted Hina and Uchi in their summer uniforms. Luckily it was a quick fix since they were drawn digitally. Once I had the background and Hina/Uchi painted, I then finished the painting with Asuka.

In this scenario, Yuri actually did get a seat next to Tomoko this time (when I read that chapter, I felt that…). Uchi is of course fixated on Tomoko who is on Asuka’s right (our left). Nemoto being able to read the mood, has noticed us looking at the super cute Asuka eating some ramen. Hopefully this time Asuka doesn’t have any problems again finishing it. One of the reasons I really love Watamote is that even beautiful and I guess idealized people like Asuka are shown to be, well, human. Having to deal with the same problems we all face, be it physical or emotional.

One more year of life 2021 Colorized

I finally colorized this drawing. I had planned to do so sooner… but I finally got to it. What I had in mind was going for a Ukiyo-e style. I went for a simple painting style and then texturized with with some layers I overlaid upon it.

Ten Shin Han Meditation COPIC

This is the colored version of the Ten Shin Han line art I posted here:

It’s been quite a while since I last used Copic markers. There is also a metallic gold pen that I had never tried. In this piece I was contemplating between painting this as either a more realistic style or a stylized one that emulated Buddhist paintings.

Sadly, scanning the finished painting I couldn’t get the color of the gold to pop out correctly. It came out really dark. So I had to edit those golden lines digitally. Which took quite a while… One other problem I ran into was dried up markers. I pushed them to the limit but they did leave streaks on the paper. I decided to leave it as such just to see what kind of effect it would have. Doing large areas is definitely better suited for watercolors.

Metal Bat inked painted

I just noticed, but this drawing was done almost a year ago. And it has been painted for almost a couple of weeks now. But I kept pushing it back. Maybe I should upload every day instead of only on weekdays. But I do plan on making videos on things beside the speed paints as well, so I’ll see how my schedule ends up looking before I make a decision.

I went for a flat colring style this time. Hmm… Metal Bat looks a bit like Dracula…

Inktober 2020 26 Momoko Hide

Today’s prompt is hide. After a little bit of thought I decided to use the scans of Momoko’s last photobook as reference to draw today’s drawing. What I did differently today was just learn from the clothes and the tree used, I wanted to make my own pose. I was imagining a scene where Momoko was playing hide and seek and decided to give up her position in a cute way.

Inktober 2020 10 Hope

When I saw the prompt for today I was thinking of doing something generic like a person clasping their hands but I had a better (and funnier) idea. What about a drawing of Tomoko finally having some friends.
I really love the way the story has been going. I always enjoyed the cringe aspect of the story since loners know firsthand what Tomoko feels, thinks and does in order to get by. But I also really love the way she has developed over the years and has managed to even start making really close friends. There truly is hope out there, even for Tomoko.

Inktober 2020 04 radio

Didn’t have much time today either but I somehow still managed to draw something. I had a bit of a different idea in mind when I saw the prompt yesterday. I was thinking of having a cholo and a yanki having a boombox battle trying to impress a cute girl. But due to the lack of time I had to scrap that idea. When I was looking through my reference collection I saw an ad with Phoebe Cates holding a portable stereo and I knew that it would be the reference picture I would use.

I was wondering if I would be able to convey that her hair was wet, but I think I did.
