Cyber Oni

There’s a new brush that I wanted to try out an ink brush that has translucence. This reacts a lot like real ink. With colors, it should work a lot like watercolors so that I can glaze and paint in layers. For now I just wanted to practice with it. In the middle of painting I noticed that I was pressing down really hard. Then I noticed that I hadn’t calibrated the tablets pressure sensitivity properly. Putting it at a lighter setting is night and day. As for the brush it self, I really like it. This will definitely become one of my new favorite brushes that I will be using.

Sayu-Mask

Despite the end of last year being quite dry, the start of this year has given us quite a bit of snow. I quite like the athmosphere this creates which is why I decided to use it for the painting this time around. The line art was done for Inktober 2021 day 27 which can be seen here:

The model for this painting is Sayumi Michishige. I really love the outfit and colors. I debated on how I wanted Sayu’s colors to be overall. Light and faded, or darker, affected by the scenery. I opted for the darker route.

Inktober 2021 Day 27

The recent photos that Sayu has been uploading are extremely beautiful. Many of them really capture the fall season (there’s so many I want to work with). I quite like the ones where she is sporting a cute mask. The pairing with the newsboy cap is a nice touch.

I was going to add some hatching to mark the darker areas and the patterns in the mask. But time was quite limited today so that will have to be another time.

I really loved Miyabi’s New Years photos. She looks really beautiful with her kimono. She mentioned it was a retro look, so I’m guessing this is a Showa era style? It really suits her. She looks so ａｅｓｔｈｅｔｉｃ with the shrine in the background. I think an 80s/90s anime style would look good but I feel it will also look good in watercolor. Just recently on her Twitter she mentioned that she has been getting nostalgic for Berryz Koubou. She also gave the impression that there might be a reunion of some kind.

Nube vs. Corona V.

As the whole world is trying to deal with the Corona Virus pandemic I felt I should at least make one piece about it. I just sketched some ideas and began painting as soon as I felt the idea was close enough. I really wanted to make another piece with ガしガし‘s style again. I was debating whether to make Corona’s image more closely related to the virus itself or make one up based on the name Corona. So I did the latter. Just after finishing it, I decided to add some saliva and dark shadows to Corona V.

Stay inside everyone, let’s end this virus together.
