Riku KHII Bust

Whenever I have time I have been playing through the Kingdom Hearts series before I go ahead and play Kingdom Hearts III. So far I have finished the original, saw the 358/2 days scenes, I started playing Chain of memories but it was quite straining so I went ahead and saw the scenes on youtube. Anyway I finished Kingdom Hearts II about two weeks ago. And I gotta say, the design for Riku in Kingdom Hearts II was definitely the best version so far. I’ve seen his design in Kingdom Hearts III and so far KHII is still the best. Both with the cloak and the his normal clothes.

As a side note, after finishing Kingdom Hearts II I decided to go back to Chain of Memories and slug through it. I really don’t like quitting. I’m almost done with Sora’s section then there should be a short section where I play as Riku.

Here is the finished piece done with my G pen and my Copics:

Sora – Let’s begin a new adventure

Kingdom Hearts III has finally been released yesterday (although I wont be able to play it till I finish 2 and all the games that came after it. But in commemoration I decided to make a quick piece for it.

here it is:

Of course I pre-ordered my own copy so that I can play it hopefully very soon.

RESTORATION PROJECT

I have been restoring some of my old drawings now that I have acquired some more copic marker colors and have also just recently obtained a couple of sets of pens. This will greatly give me control of my drawings. I want to make a small segment of that as soon as I get some more items being shipped as we speak. In any case I will be replacing these pieces with their counterparts. And I will be taking the kill bill/game of thrones drawing off since it isn’t such a good quality print. I have an A3 scanner but this will require something bigger, and looking for a place to scan them was rather expensive… I will have to find a remedy for that at some point. Anyway here they are.

As a side note, I learned that restoring the drawing made with color pencils were the toughest to make touch ups on. Copics are really hard to to use on them since they are quite slippery for them.

Aqua – Hope is not Lost… “SORA… “

I was seriously rather surprised that it took me this long to finish this drawing. There have been some setbacks on my end due to some complications but it seems like things have been settling down now. So I was finally able to make some advancements these last two days. The bad news is that the next work was pushed back, unless I manage to make a miracle. Cosmos, grant me a miracle! (that’s how Seiya said it right?)

But I will try and make it work, I’ll start with a Christmas themed drawing and move up to a winter one (or maybe two).

Now, a bit on the drawing. I have run out on many of my Copic markers, so I have to buy some refills. But I don’t know when that will be, hopefully soon. Why do I bring that up, well that’s because I had to do this drawing with nothing but color pencils. Except for a few places that I had to do some fixing where some of the color pencil couldn’t color in completely (I used some Copic’s and a white pen). I noticed a couple  of “problems”, like the color pencils don’t completely cover the paper completely unless I paste it on heavily (this only works with my PrismaColors). The problem is that I can’t blend them too well at that point. But if I don’t heavily color it, then I leave white crevices (spots) on the paper. This is why I like to use Copics as a base in the bottom. Hmmm…. I made sure to buy a new type of paper that is really smooth to overcome this problem (I used Bristol paper by the way), and although it seriously does reduce these imperfections, it’s obviously not perfect. One thing to keep note of, is that if the object is big, as in it covers most of the paper (like a face portrait) and it doesn’t have many objects and colors in it like my drawing does, then you should have an easier time blending things and make the imperfections less noticeable. Whatever the case, it does give it the distinctive color pencil look. So although my style has evolved to the two process coloring that I have been developing, I’ll leave this as it is.

This drawing was made in commemoration of Kingdom Hearts 2.5 and the upcoming and long awaited Kingdom Hearts III. Made almost exclusively out of color pencils. Drawing made in inspiration of the Kingdom Hearts 3 teasers.

Slight delay

This week has been quite problematic. I had a major problem with a virus that was going around and got sick because of it. That had me out of commission for the whole week, and to top it all off it’s is now going to be finals week so I have to take some time to study. For that reason I will have to delay this week’s artwork. \

Sorry about that.

But here are some scans of what I have done so far.

Aqua, Terra, Ventus “The challenges of the outside world” Update III Final

I’m finally done with my Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep drawing. I had it mostly done a couple of days ago actually. But I decided to hold off on it since I was still unsure of a couple of details. I’m glad I did because I feel I actually made it better. So for one, I added some more details with my color pencils and then I also used a new tool this time. I recently bought a black and white carbon pencil set. They work really well, specially the black one. It’s really soft and dark. Also I can spread it out to my preferences to add shadow effects and darken any colors quickly and efficiently. I really recommend it.

Once I had it all in order I darkened a couple of colors and areas using that carbon pencil I was talking about. After that I noticed that I would be able to produce an effect I was thinking about when it came to Ventus and specially Terra. I wanted to show that darkness was present in both, though it engulfed Terra so I added some black aura/shadows/mist around their bodies. But I also wanted Aqua to remain untouched by it but still in the midst of it since they are her friends and also her responsibility. I’ll talk a bit more about what I wanted to convey through this drawing a bit later. One thing I wasn’t really sure about was Ventus’s hair. I just didn’t like the dark outline at all. So I decided to add a bit of white highlights with my white pen. Luckily it came out rather well. So before I explain anything about it, here are the pictures.
