Inktober 2024 Day 02 Kiki

This time I decided to draw something outside of the prompts. I wanted to work with hatching. For today’s subject I chose Kiki. Now that I think about it, I draw Kiki a every Inktober. To be fair, I saw a really cute reference picture that gave me ideas. I contemplated whether to draw the actual reference photo or modify it and turn her into Kiki. When I finally decided I also recreated the pose in clip studio to also see how the body would look. By chance the hand gestures also changed as I was posing but I really like it so I kept it. Can’t believe how useful the 3d models are. Now I’m contemplating buying the figma pose figures…

There is this artist named matayoshi that I want to learn from. The hatching is so simple and yet so beautiful.

Here is the artist:

On another note, I wanted to use bristol paper (the one I mentioned yesterday) but when I was looking at my old bristol book I noticed I only had a few papers left. But I also discovered an old drawing book by Strathmore that had a good number of pages left. Even more since I tend to cut them up into even smaller pieces. I felt that it was better quality then the other paper I used yesterday and gave it a try. And sure enough it didn’t have the same problem of my maru pen cutting the fibers… Who knew I had the solution to this problem all along. I should buy more of this paper when I get the chance.

Bulmas Delivery Service V2

Looking at past works, I really wanted to give “Bulma’s Delivery Service” another try. It was so close and yet was still in a very rough state. Some areas were tilted and the background painting was also in need of another attempt with my current skills. I loved working on this painting again. The original artist for the Kiki’s poster is amazing.

Kiki and Jiji 90s

I learned about the using the filter abilities that Photoshop offers, one of the options is grain, which really gives off old analog TV vibes. I’ve done something like this before when I painted my Saki Shimizu drawing.

Which can be seen here: https://darkcloudxero.com/2020/12/15/otona-na-no-yo-saki-shimizu/

For this painting wanted to do something more flat, but in the end I felt it would look better with some shading. I feel that if I did want to use super flat colors, I need to make a simpler design for the line art. I think I will make that my goal for tomorrows piece.

Bulma’s Delivery Service

This is a painting for the drawing I did for inktober of this year (day 30). I wanted to do a parody of Kiki’s Delivery Service with Bulma as Kiki. Most of it uses the same style and colors but I incorporated elements from Dragon ball. Such changes are substituting Jiji for Tama, changing the font to Capsule Corp in the window reflection, using a mitsubishi car transporting Muten Roshi and Goku and Lunch as the woman walking in the street. Colors aren’t quite the same but look similar enough. I quite like how it turned out.

What do you guys think?

Inktober 2019 30 Bulmas Delivery Service

Were about to enter Halloween so I wanted to make some witch oriented piece. I had another idea (which will be done at a later date) but I decided to make Bulma into a little witch. Then I eventually decided to combine Kiki’s Delivery Service with Bulma.

Preparing for Animeland Wasabi II -Piñatas Part II

It took me a month to make 8 piñatas, I could probably push at least 10 in the same amount of time. I say a month but really it’s about 3 weeks and … 3 days? Some did take a bit longer due to me not having the right color of paper or thinking about the shape I would cut the strips of paper. Despite keeping that in mind, I was surprised that they took that long to make. But now that I have finished them I can look back and and think about ways to cut at the very least 5 days off (if not more). In the end, preparation and planning takes time, almost half of it. I wonder just how much I can refine out of my process.

Looking at the pictures, I will have no choice but to divide it into two more posts. The middle process of actually putting together and giving shape to the balloons that had hardened with the engrudo and newspaper. And the final part of decorating them and giving them their final appearance.

I took a lot of pictures about the process, but don’t wan’t to flood you guys with information so I only posted the most important photos here. But if you click on one, it should take you to flickr which is where I uploaded all of them. There you can get a full view of the process in case you need more angles and steps in between the photos that I did post. In case you don’t want to leave this page as you see flickr than you can right click and open in a different tab.

I made it so that the photos spoke for themselves about the process I took, but if you have any questions do let me know and I will respond as best as I can.

Sorting out the shapes once they had dried sure took a while, next time I have to find a way to keep together the balloons that correspond to one another.

To speed up the process of cutting the paper that will cover the piñatas I recommend to do several at once. Line up strips of paper together than folded up in halves.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkcloudxero/31820061383/in/dateposted-public/

You’ll end up with this at the end, from there just cut out the shape or shapes you wish to make and that will minimize the amount of time you will be using to cut paper. Otherwise it is a time eater, I can tell you that from experience.

Here’s a sneak peak at what is to come next time.

That will be all for now. I will be adding the final process and showing you photos of how they turned out. I’d say they came out great but we’ll see what you think.

Hasta la proxima.
