Inktober 2023 Day 31 Haniel (Marin Kitagawa)

We made it, Today is the last day of Inktober 2023. And I have decide to finish it off with Marin Kitagawa cosplaying as Haniel the Archangel. The lore and aesthetics of Haniel are quite beautiful and also spooky for lack of a better word. The artist made a good job to convey that.

I was unsure how the hands and claws look, so I had to go with just long nails. My first plan was just to darken the background around Marin but that just looked too plain. And I wanted to extend beyond her ankles so I edited the bottom part and add to it. Marin was inked and hatched traditionally and everything else was done digitally.

Happy Halloween! May next year also allow me to participate again in Inktober.

Inktober 2023 Day 30 Monster by the Window

Happy Birthday Meimi Tamura! Hope you have a great year.

This piece is based on the play Marigold in which Meimi Tamura plays the main role of Gerbera a Dhampir (a being born from a human and a vampire). It is quite a tragic and beautiful tale about a mother’s love. Meimi’s solo is absolutely beautiful and my favorite part of the play. If you get a chance do check it out. Luckily it was recorded and released in both dvd and blue ray. And some fans have created subtitles for the whole series it seems which is awesome for us international fans.

The whole drawing has been done both traditionally (the line art) and digitally (inking, hatching and combining two separate drawings). Meimi was drawn on one paper and the window on another. With the amount of details I wanted to add, I decided to do the inking digitally since I probably wouldn’t have finished it in time.

Planning, sketching, inking, hatching and everything else in one day was crazy. But, I got it done. With this, I only have one more day and Inktober is finished!

Inktober 2023 Day 29 Natsume (Sabrina)

I recently remembered the original Pokemon anime episode where Natsume (Sabrina for the English Dub) fought using esper powers. I remember it being creepy when I was a kid, but was surprised by how tame the mini arc was when I saw it in preparation for this drawing. Even the way they defeated her was not what I remembered. Having said that, a esper battling with psychic and ghost Pokemons is a pretty cool idea. While looking for reference photos, i quite liked all her outfits, but to fit her having Haunter I decided to go with her anime clothes. I tried to make it as though they have psychic aura around them, but I wonder if that was conveyed.

Inktober 2023 Day 26 Dr Kuriba’s Monster

I chose to make a Frakenstein parody with Kuriba Ryouko’s story arc. I really enjoyed it. Today was a busy day so I wasn’t able to play with the details i would have liked this time. But I can always come back to it at a later date.

Inktober 2023 Day 25 Kung Fu Peach

I really like the concept and costumes of Peach’s new game. The game also taking place in a play also gives it a cool aesthetic. I’m not to happy with the hills/mountains hatching but that can be fixed at a later date.

Other than that though, I quite like her martial arts outfit. It will be cool to see her new moves being used in later games such as Smash Bros. I was really tempted to draw her swordsman outfit as well, but I can just do a painting at a later date.

Inktober 2023 Day 24 Ano Smile

I’ve really liked Ano’s aesthetics for quite a while. I’ve been wanting to make a drawing of her for quite a couple of years now. With Inktober having me draw daily and her recent music video for “Smile Agenai”. There were so many scenes that are just plain interesting, fun and cute that I wanted to draw but I quite liked her playing with the idea of smiling with her dance choreography.

Inktober 2023 Day 23 Mami Tomoe

And to top of the original main members from Puella Magi Madoka Magica is Mami Tomoe. I would say she is my favorite member along with Akemi Homura. I really like the radiant energy that she exudes, so it was a big surprise when I first saw that infamous episode of hers that really showed us the danger and stakes that magical girls had to go through. In any case, I wanted to emphasize her confident and playful personality through her pose.

Today I drew Akemi Homura. Now there is only one more member left from the group that I want to draw. I forgot to draw the soul gem again… Thank you clip studio, I really like your realistic pen.

Inktober 2023 Day 19 Pouting Red Panda

I recently saw a really cute video of a jealous and pouting red panda who wanted some apple slices. It’s crazy how animated the whole scene looked, like I could seriously see that happen in an anime.

This was mostly done traditionally but I tried to do a shadow underneath the red panda. But didn’t like the way it turned out so I hatched a new one using Clip Studio. The scan also had this weird reflection on the chest so I quickly darkened that section digitally.
