Inktober 2021 Day 06

It’s been a while since I last played Smash, I grew up with the original 64 version so that’s what I have in mind whenever I think about it. When Terry was announced for the series I wanted to finally give the new ones a try but I rarely play games anymore. But yesterday when I arrived from one of my jobs, my brother excitedly asked if I knew who the next and final Smash character was. I jokingly said Sora since I have always been told by my friends and other brother that it would never happen due to the licenses needed. But I always foolishly believed. I finally got to see the trailer this morning and… it was amazing. I felt goosebumps and it actually brought some tears out. The attention to detail and effort to showcase Sora was amazing. I also loved the tagline, “Sora is finally here!”. I’m so glad there was a huge push by Kingdom Hearts fans to get the attention needed so that this was made possible. Now with Sora and Terry in the game, it might finally be time for me to get a Switch. Plus, it seems the new Switch version will be released soon. Although, I have yet to played Kingdom Hearts III. I should really get on that as well.

Sora and Mario really make an amazing duo. That handshake was so iconic and was a nice homage to when Sora and Mickey did it. To fit with Sora’s personality, I wanted to make a fun and happy piece.

Inktober 2021 Day 05

For the fifth day I drew Momochi. I finally got to see parts of “Momo Play” (a dvd series where Momochi cosplays various outfits). Among them was one where Momochi cosplays as a maid which is just freakin cute. I just couldn’t resist drawing her. The reference used was from where she was walking down the stairs. I went for a manga look.

Inktober 2021 Day 04

Today is day four. While looking through my references I found a cover photo of Nakahara Meiko’s “Yakimochiyaki Rumba Boy”. In it she is wearing a blazer with the imposing shoulder pads which looks amazing. I quite like the style.

Photo of Meiko:

Those shoulder pads reminded me of Chizuru Kagura from the King of Fighters. I really like her style and strong aesthetic. I’m surprised it took me this long to finally draw her.

Inktober 2021 Day 02

Today is day two of Inktober. I decided to follow the prompt this time which is “suit”. As I thought about it, I came up with the idea of drawing Goku wearing a suit. Then I thought it would be cute if I drew Goku and Chi Chi together dressed in formal attire.

Inktober 2021 Day 01

I had completely forgotten about Inktober until I posted the first drawing today just by pure chance. Luckily drawing doesn’t take me that long anymore, so posting everyday shouldn’t be a problem despite my schedule.

To start off Day one of Inktober 2021, I decided to draw Tomoko and Kuroki from Watamote. Seems like they have been regulars every year. I just quite like their friendship, similarities and contrast in their personalities.

I really need to catch up on the latest chapters, I’ll probably do it tonight.

Have fun during this Inktober everyone!

Nube 2021 Line Art

I forgot about this drawing until I was cleaning my room today. It was part of a couple of drawings I quickly made in the course of an hour. I had no real goal, I was just drawing.

Karin Mirror 80s Anime

Reference used was from the Hello! Project Digital Books vol. 162. I drew this way back in July. I decided to wait and come back to it a bit later. I ended up editing some of the line art and lightened some sections of it.

Skull Knight Loss

This was originally drawn for Inktober 2020 day 31, but I wasn’t happy with the proportions.
It can be seen here:

I fixed those using PhotoShop and fixed a couple of areas. The hatching was done using Clip Studio.

Skulll Knight’s story was already sad after seeing the brief flash back from one of the latest chapters. But it just got even more sad because we won’t know any more about him due to the tragic loss of Kentaro Miura. We will always have to wonder what his ultimate goals and journey would entail.

Kyōko Koizumi ‘Dunk’ Cover

I messed up last time and attributed the model for this drawing wrongly. The artist/model in the January 1985 “Dunk” magazine. Luckily I got to fix it this time around. I decided to go for a more colorful color scheme.

Momoko resting on arms

I was wondering why my artwork was looking a bit blocky when I was resizing it to a smaller size so that I could post it online and just now remembered that I didn’t change my settings that I used for creating pixel art. Changing the resample option to automatic and that did the trick. I think I have about one or two weeks worth of artwork that have been resized using the wrong settings… What’s funny is that I already had a resized version up and ready to post, but I’m glad I forgot.

The line art for this painting is quite old now. Its from way back in June. I remember trying to paint it not long after drawing it but didn’t like what I was coming out with. I decided to go with a Copic/watercolor like style. Using Toko Suzuki’s brush is great since it has both texture and opacity control. I really like the amount of detail and control I can get with it. There’s many ways to paint this Momoko drawing but I have couple others that I can try that out with.

XP Pen Reconstructed Masterpiece Bandaged Van Gogh

This will be the actual entry to the contest, now that it’s completely painted. I debated with going with a more painterly style or a more anime like style. After playing around a bit, I decided to go with the anime style. I tried to keep the same color scheme. I added some static to the background which for some reason intensified when I resized the whole painting to a smaller size. I contemplated whether to add some blood to the piece but decided against it…

For the background, if I remember correctly (I think I learned this in art class when I was in middle school) Van Gogh was a fan of Japan. A bit of an Otaku. So I thought it would be fun to play around with that idea with the paintings in the background.
