I’ve been wanting to paint Sayu in this outfit ever since it was uploaded. She kind of reminds me of a Team Rocket member.
This is the second Microsoft Surface Pro 5 painting. This time around working with the surface felt a lot smoother. The next test will consist of me working in portrait mode. I know it works since I tried to see what would happen if I tilted the whole screen, although it did make Corel crash… I’ll have to play with it a bit more.
I’m two days late, but happy birthday Sayumi! Wasn’t too sure what to paint this year, but I went with this. I used two reference photos from Sayu’s instagram.
References used: 7th photo and 9th photo (for the second link).
This is the colored version of my Sayu drawing done with Copics. It was painted with Corel Painter and then used the layer styles from PhotoShop. Each style changes different aspects of the painting when it interacts with the line art and the painting layer. I think each one has it’s appeal. Soft light gave it a pastel look which I really liked. Because the copic ink doesn’t completely cover the texture of the paper and it also doesn’t always completely cover an area (there are some patches that are lighter), these can give interesting effects when painted digitally and played with the layer options. This can be affected even further when playing with the layer transparency.
It’s always fun when I draw Sayu. Recently she cut her hair down so I really want to do another piece with her new hair style.
I wanted to work with my Copic for the line art step. I have done this before and really like the effect that I can get out of it when I paint it digitally. Sadly it seems like my copic tips are getting worn out, they have this gummy feel to them now. I guess I’ll have to replace them soon.
Today’s prompt is float. Since we are nearing Halloween and the prompt is float, I decided to draw a witch. After a little bit of thought I decided to draw Morda from Berserk. I wonder is she will be joining the party once they leave the island? It would be strange is she didn’t. This time I decided to just go ahead and come up with a pose from my mind. When I was done, I noticed that it was similar to what was drawn in chapter 361. I guess that image stayed in mind.
I wanted to do a drawing that was done entirely with hatching and cross hatching. Looking through my references I decided to draw @yu_ra_ne , I believe she is a model? But she has a lot of beautiful photos that I could choose from. I decided to go with one where she was dressed as a goth lolita since it would better fit into the Halloween aesthetic. Looking at the linework done in the reference paintings that I have of Yoshitaka’s art I believe he was using a brush to get the effect that some areas have (some are lighter, and some are darker). So with that in mind I watered the ink and passed over the areas I wished to darken twice. I wanna try working with this style more and at some point with color.
Ahh finally, my favorite season has begun. Some days have already started to have lower temperatures but it’s still fluctuating quite a bit. Any way, things have been quite busy lately so I just made a quick painting to commomerate fall. Although I wish to make more. Oh wait Inktober starts tomorrow. I guess my time will be taken over by that for a month. The painting is a study of this photo of Sayu: https://www.instagram.com/p/CFE1mDOlsl4/
Many of the side characters in Captain Tsubasa could’ve been very generic stereotypes but I really do believe almost every single one of the main rivals that Tsubasa encouters are not only very interesting but interesting enough to be main characters in their own series. Truthfully I prefer almost every one of those rival characters to Tsubasa who I find to be really boring (but I guess that is usually the case with most protagonists of shonen series.
In any case, I have said it before and I will say it again. The best character is Hyuga Kojiro who very easily could have been that cool bad character that one loves to hate but is usually very one dimensional for most of the series until they decide to flesh them out. But instead they decided to show just how much of a hard worker Kojiro is and how selfless he is as well right from the start. Aside from his rather combative and harsh personality in the field, he is a person that one could look up to and admire. His life is not easy, as he has to support his family who is struggling financially by both working and taking care of his siblings. He not only does it but he understands the situation and doesn’t hold a grudge against anyone for his predicament. And finally, despite all that going on, he decides to continue doing what he loves and works towards his dream of being a soccer player. He truly is the antithesis of Tsubasa who was born a genius soccer player with a whole family who not only loves him, and has financial security but they also do everything they can to allow Tsubasa to pursue his dream of becoming a pro soccer player. One has everything given to him and the other has to struggle to achieve his goals.
I’ve been wanting to do some pixel art for a couple of months now… I recently got reminded again of ThorHighHeels video about the PC98 art style. I have an idea for a piece that I will be working on soon. For the first test I made a new Sayu piece using a photo from her instagram. It seems like there is a way to do pixel art using Photoshop but I would have to change quite a number of the settings so looked for other alternatives. Eventually I came upon Pro Motion which luckily has a free version. It seems that if I were to get a full version I would gain the ability to animate my art, but that will have to wait. After finishing this piece which surprisingly didn’t take too much time I exported the picture as a PNG. The resolution was of course tiny (64 pixels by 64 pixels). I figured I could just enlarge the piece with Photoshop. It worked quite well.
This drawing was originally done for inktober 2019 on day 4. My first main goal was to make an anime painting with hard color changes. When I was done I noticed that it didn’t fit in at all with the texture background I had started. They didn’t fit together at all. So I was a bit disappointed. It looked amazing with a completely white background though. The colors were really vibrant and had really light and dark tones so I wondered what type of background would fit. After I was done painting Elsa in I thought about it for a while and decided to paint the background with Corel. I had absolutely no plan when painting but after just choosing a base color that would fit with Elsa’s color scheme I just started adding color till I eventually ended up with her sitting on a her comfy seat surrounded by some curtains (I believe that’s what they would be called). But Elsa still did not fully fit in with the background. It didn’t look back bad but the lights weren’t interacting with her at all. So I then put a gradient on her to darken the bottom half of her body and putting the layer on multiply.
