Kana Arima Cat Sweater with Mem-cho

I finally finished the Oshi no Ko manga a couple of weeks ago. Personally I liked the ending. But that’s all I’ll say so as to not spoil anything.

On another note, I’ve recently been playing around with lighting effects. These really change my paintings and help out in ways that would take me too long to figure out and paint by hand. I wanted to learn how to do it by hand first though to build the fundamentals. Although I still have a ways to go but it should be ok to try new tools.

Kana Arima Cat Sweater Line Art

There’s a couple of new brushes I downloaded for Clip Studio which of course included pens. There is one that emulates translucent ink which I wanted to try out. It’s pretty realistic. I like it.

Now that I’ve done the line art, I cleaned up the lines and finalized sections that I was still planning out. The next step is figuring out how I want to paint it.

Kana Arima Cat Sweater Rough Draft

It still looks a bit rough, but hopefully it will take form when I finalize the lines. I have decided to just do the rough draft traditionally and then do the line art digitally so as to not waste time redoing the line art more than once.

Kana Arima Cafe Visit

I watched Oshi no Ko quite a few weeks ago. I loved it. By far my favorite character is Kana. I really want to make make more paintings of her.

The weather is finally starting to change and so are the colors, even if ever so slightly where I live. I wanted to portray a cozy atmosphere with this painting. Thus the colors and location I chose.

In terms of the painting I liked playing with different lighting colors that happened due to the light sources coming from all around her. Lately I have been debating whether to keep the big anime eyes, or making them more realistic. Personally I like both but often do wonder if my art style works better with more realistic proportions.

The window looked a bit too simple and empty so I decided to use the skill I learned from painting Momochi a while ago and add some raindrops. I think it’s a nice touch.

By the end I decided to make the painting into a sequence.

Here is the process:
