"A Hopeless Dream Chaser"
Here is the process of a future painting.

Was planning on having this work with the remake contest on Pixiv but the dates didn’t align. Oh well.
Here is the final piece for this painting. Attached will be the old version. I changed quite a few things and also the posture. I painted based on my current memory. Overall I feel pretty good with the end result. Brute forcing the acquisition of skill takes time, but I’m now finally seeing some of the result of my training. Making colors more vibrant really helps make the painting pop more than just trying to mimic reference photos. I know that’s obvious but I wanted to understand why that is the case.
I used to have a tough time blending colors for the sky but using the blending tool makes that super easy. It’s kind of hilarious it took me this long to figure that out.
I just noticed looking at the old painting and the new one, but I flipped the hand position…

Here is the final part of this painting of Rei Ayanami. I took many rests as I was finishing it up due to various reasons but I’m glad I did because it gave me a chance to see it with new eyes. On top of that, at some point I finally began experimenting with the blending tool. The soft one is the one I eventually chose to use. For harder blending and separation of colors the sergeant tool is is my best tool. But for certain textures such as the skin I need softer blending sometimes.
Overall this was a fun painting to play around with.

Here is the background for another one of my RE:do paintings. Recently I started implementing a new technique into my paintings. I’m surprised it took me this long to do so though. I’ll speak more about that later. Perhaps adding more details to the sand would’ve added something more to the painting, but with the subject as the focal point that may not be necessary.

Having PC issues again. After a couple of months my PC begins going into restarting fits. And once they start, they start becoming more and more frequent. Looking around it seems like it might be hardware issues. Perhaps I’m using more power than my power supply can give or it’s my motherboard. Hopefully my PC lasts long enough to last this year.
On the other hand, here is a background for a piece that I’m working on. I thought I was done with it, but after coming back to it I felt there were plenty of things that I could fix. Sadly the PC issues kept messing with my progress. So I had no choice but to reinstall Windows and also all my programs. As I’m writing this, I still need to install my art programs but it’s getting late so I might have to finish that up tomorrow.

Here is another Re:do painting. This one was originally done in march 2022 I think. I had it ready for a while now. But a couple of days ago, after working on some other paintings I made some more edits that I think work better. I’m glad I didn’t uploaded it sooner.
If you look at the first version you can tell just how much my line art was holding me back. without them I can blend areas that are supposed to be receiving light with lighter colors. One thing I have been noticing is that adding more color to my lighting and shading adds more to my painting and makes it look less dull over all. Although I want to try working with a pallet that’s softer but that works well together. At some point I’ll upload examples of what I’m talking about.
Have you guys been keeping up with Watamote? It’s amazing. I really do hope they give an anime adaptation another try.

2023 version:
2019 version:
…. I’ve been kneecapped by my line art…
Because of my painting style using my ink line art doesn’t work well together. And because I was trying to work around it, I kept getting the hues and values wrong. Well, that and brute forcing my growth by trying to paint as fast as possible. Color theory is tough. Unless I want to paint in flat colors, keeping my line art was doing me a disservice.
Today’s painting is of Bowsette, originally painted back in 2019. This time I wanted to draw Bowsette’s whole body. I remember skipping her feet because it would have been a bit tougher, so painting them this time would showcase a growth in my skills. Having only Bowsette looked a bit lonely though, so I added Mario in this Re:do. But that also felt a bit lonely so I debated on whether to add some of that fire I had in my original painting. Depending on how much fire I added though I would be covering up some of my background so I was a bit apprehensive. Adding it was the right move though.
It’s annoying because now that I have done a couple of more paintings I see more things I can change and do differently. Maybe some other time.

This background will be part of a remake that I made back in 2019. Wow, that’s what in the range of 3-4 years… Time sure is flying.

It’s funny, now that my skills have gotten a bit better I have been going back to old art pieces and see what I can do with them now. And in Pixiv there is currently a contest where they want us to upload redo’s of old artwork to showcase one’s growth. Somehow this all came together at the same time. I’ll be uploading some more artwork throughout April.
Working with blues is still a bit tough for me so I want to do some more later this year.
As for this art piece, I edited the line art to change the proportions and angles. Once I had that edited I came up with the background so I could come up with the color theme of 2B.
I felt it would be a shame if I didn’t have a version without her blindfold.

Here’s a return of an old piece that I feel could be made better. For now this is the background.

Old version:
I wasn’t too happy with the previous version of this line art I made for Inktober 2022 day 17. Although looking at the reference photo I originally used, I now feel I should have exaggerated the angle and the ratio of the head and hips. Because I didn’t, it doesn’t really look like a down to top viewpoint. It’s just slightly implied. But I’ll play with that idea next time.

Here is the Colored version of my Airi Rescue illustration. I’m uploading two versions. The second version has some static added to it to replicate the quality of a magazine print. One things I like in old anime are the glow effects they do with beams, so I wanted to incorporate that in this illustration. Adding some outer glow to the beam and adding some noise to the glow gave it a cool effect.
I want to convert this drawing to an anime frame at some point. You know, like those mid point frames when the anime had to go to commercials.
