Clouded Grassland Background

It’s strange going back to Corel Painter. One of the things that Corel Painter just can’t do as well as Krita is the blender. But being able to work with only one brush is amazing.

This background will be for a future piece. I wonder if any of you know what scene I’m depicting. I’m currently re-reading the series so I can have a better experience with the newer chapters.

I’m still not too conviced with the clouds so I might retouch them at a later date. Currently I’m working on the subjects, there are a couple of them so it’s taking a while for the rough drafts.

Sprite Lightning background

This year I learned about lightning sprites and found them to be quite pretty and surreal. It also reminds me a lot about Evangelion. Don’t know what I will do with this, perhaps nothing but practice. We’ll see.

Today I was working with the pen and tablet settings and things seem to be working much better now. I should have installed the XP drivers a while ago. Playing with the pressure and opacity seems to be more responsive in the way I have been craving. I’ll have to try out more scenes and subjects. It’s taking me a while but Krita is pretty good. I just have to approach things a bit differently.

Sunset Beach Background Krita

I guess I had lost the brush that I remembered trying out weeks ago. This one isn’t lagging like the other smeary brush. I ended up editing the brush a bit and removed the texture it was using. I’ll be modifying it as I use it throughout the year. Next test is when I paint the main subject.

Krita Test 3

Another test using Krita, this time with color again. There’s this blending brush that I downloaded that works really well. Just a shame I can’t do it all with just one brush. But I guess if I just add the brushes I use to my favorites it shouldn’t take that much longer than with Corel Painter. The current smeary brushes don’t quite act like I want though, plus it stutters when I paint in the usual large canvas of 9,000px.

Some brushes act like I would expect and others either don’t or lag at the size I need it. Luckily I can make my own brushes so it will take some time to adjust to my style.

Spring Garden of the Gods

I’m currently trying to learn how to use Krita. This painting was done with nothing but the default brushes. None of them worked like the one’s in Corel Painter so it felt a bit uncomfortable. Luckily, I recently found brushes that work with my style.

Raining Ginza crosswalk Background

I was wondering what the background would be for one of the next paintings. Luckily there are those walking in the rain videos that gave me plenty of locations and reference materials to choose from. In the end I chose this crosswalk in Ginza. The street reflections were something I was worried about, but after trying it out a number of ways it all started to work out. Some of the proportions weren’t really working out once I started to compare it to the subject of this painting but it was something I could fix as I went along.
