Inktober 2026 day 29 Full Moon

I outlined the moon and the grass with a light ink wash. Then after having it all painted came filling out the dark sky. I was originally using one of the brush pens but the full page was streaky and also time consuming. Luckily I remembered I bought a super black ink that I hadn’t tried out since I bought it years ago. Painting without dilution worked perfectly well when I covered the whole area. The ink from the brush pen is still darker. I wonder what the difference is? Luckily the wash covered the first attempt so the didn’t clash.

Inktober 2026 day 25 Sunset Field

I wondered if I was going to be able to draw this grassy field, and after warming up a bit with the past paintings I felt more confident. I just have to remember that it’s a matter of layering and thinking a couple of steps ahead.

Inktober 2026 day 24 Branches

… day 24. Can’t believe the month is ending and I haven’t really had time to really watch many movies to get in the spooky season. I was having a hard time deciding what to draw today too. In the end I decided to do another ink painting. This time of some branches. Wonder what I’ll choose tomorrow?

Inktober 2026 day 21 Autumn path

It’s been a while since I last made some ink paintings so i decided to give it a try. I’ll be doing some more ink paintings in the coming days. It’s much faster using the brush compared to the pen as to be expected.

Beach waves and sparkles background

I’ve been slacking a bit… Kinda hard to concentrate with everything that is going on…

This will be the background to a future piece that I hope to finish soon. I’ll upload the line art for it next week. As for this background I wanted to work with the shallow part of the beach which will include the way things look underwater. It was definitely a bit tough to get the idea, but I think I have it mostly there. Perhaps I’ll change things in the upcoming days but in the end the subject will be the focus so who knows how that will change things, or not.

Puddle Background

I have some other paintings that are not ready yet so I decided to do a study for today’s painting. This time a puddle after a rain storm. I struggled a bit with this one. There are translucent areas but there are also areas that have reflections. On top of that there are a lot of pebbles and other organic branches and leaves. It wasn’t quite working at the beginning but as I kept adding details it all came together.

Ground Rain Drops Background

I’ve worked with some reflective ground surfaces before, but this time I wanted to do one where you could see the ripples and the reflections. It would be cool to try and paint in the reflection of someone instead of the actual character, well except the shoes.

Thunderstorm

This time around I wanted to play with lighting after deciding to paint a thunderstorm. Looking through Pinterest I found a good gif reference that I could use to learn from.

As I was painting, the colors didn’t really pop out the way I wanted. When I finished I decided to play around with the levels that revealed what I was aiming for. Going for darker colors and more saturation on the blues was what was missing.

Next time I will hopefully be able to do it without having to edit the levels.

Clouded Grassland Background

It’s strange going back to Corel Painter. One of the things that Corel Painter just can’t do as well as Krita is the blender. But being able to work with only one brush is amazing.

This background will be for a future piece. I wonder if any of you know what scene I’m depicting. I’m currently re-reading the series so I can have a better experience with the newer chapters.

I’m still not too conviced with the clouds so I might retouch them at a later date. Currently I’m working on the subjects, there are a couple of them so it’s taking a while for the rough drafts.

Sprite Lightning background

This year I learned about lightning sprites and found them to be quite pretty and surreal. It also reminds me a lot about Evangelion. Don’t know what I will do with this, perhaps nothing but practice. We’ll see.

Today I was working with the pen and tablet settings and things seem to be working much better now. I should have installed the XP drivers a while ago. Playing with the pressure and opacity seems to be more responsive in the way I have been craving. I’ll have to try out more scenes and subjects. It’s taking me a while but Krita is pretty good. I just have to approach things a bit differently.
