Yoriko Dôguchi Flowing Wind Line Art

From time to time Youtube recomends some pretty cool stuff. Last week I was recomended this video by a channel named Zulfian:

It’s a fan music video for a film called Do Re Mi Fa, or also known as Bumkin Soup. Haven’t seen the movie yet, but the edit and scenes used are really beautiful. There are quite a few scenes that I want to draw and paint. It’s just so aesthetic.

After a long time, I made some line art. I started with a more realist style but wanted to also try a more anime/manga style, so I did both.

I still haven’t decided on what I would do regarding coloring/painting it. Hopefully I would have seen the movie by then.

Usagi’s room background

For some reason this week I wasn’t able to make any new art. Luckily I have a couple of paintings that I have ready but I like having a good long buffer so that I can keep uploading weekly. I just don’t like eating into it in case something comes up and I won’t have time to work on new paintings/drawings. Hopefully by next week I will have cooled down.

For today’s upload it is a RE:do background of Usagi’s room.

Mai Shiranui vs Chun Li V2

Here is an updated version of Mai and Chun Li. I originally wanted them to be surrounded by Sakura trees. My original idea was a bit different but because of the pose I had to change it to this patio one. But because it felt overwhelming when I first painted it, I left the flowers out. Surprisingly it wasn’t that hard. On top of that, I softened a few areas on both Mai and Chun Li while also adjusting the tone of the whole painting. Personally I think it looks much better now.

Misty Flower Lake Background

For today’s background painting I am continuing the Spring theme (which is getting closer to it’s end). I was worried about whether I could bring to life what I had in mind. I had to take in steps among a couple of days to figure out how to make it work. Not rushing things and taking time off away from the painting has really helped me. Now I understand why other artists do it.

The actual painting is actually now finished, but like other paintings I will upload it at another date. This will help me as well to look at it at a later date with fresh eyes.

Gojo Satoru and Iori Utahime In Shibuya

Originally I just wanted to paint Gojo. After catching up with the manga I now understand why people love him so much. But after painting him in, he looked so lonely. So I had to contemplate what to do or who to pair him with. Ultimately I knew one thing for sure, I didn’t want Suguru Geto in it. I personally really like the relationship he had with Iori, they look really fun together.

Next was how to pose Iori with Gojo. Seeing as I had already had him curled up, it just made sense to have Iori sitting on his back.

One of the things I worried about while painting this though was the cityscape. The buildings (some of them anyway) seemed to have been new in 2022 based on the Google Street View reference I used. Meaning the landscape would look completely different when Gojo and Iori were younger. But on the other hand, finding interesting locations from various angles would be a bit tough, especially period correct.

Lucrezia Noin by the Balcony

As mentioned last time when I uploaded the background, this has been a painting that I had planned months, years ago? I’m glad I waited this long to make it though, now that my skills are at this level. I was contemplating putting Zechs Merquise in the veranda. On top of that, I recently got the idea to add Releena next to Noin. Perhaps next year.

I believe this is the first painting or even drawing of Noin, which is surprising since I really like her character. Much like G Gundam, Gundam Wing was my introduction to the Gundam fandom. If time permits I want to make some more Gundam Wing paintings.

Cherry Blossom Patio Background

This is actually for a RE:do painting. It hasn’t been a whole year yet, but I feel that I have gotten better to the point of giving another chance to paint what I had in mind. Because of certain limitations and because the season wasn’t appropriate I left it half finished. But I will talk more on that when the time comes.

Momochi hiking

I’ve been wanting to do a fan art regarding a photo of Momochi hiking. But I wasn’t sure what painting style I should go with. I rarely do flat paintings lately so I wanted to try an anime style this time. But now that it’s complete, I want to try it with my style as well. Perhaps at a later date. Hopefully in the future I will understand why it currently it doesn’t please me.

So many ideas I want to draw and paint, so little time…

Cloudy Lake

Been wanting to paint this for quite a bit now. This week has been quite rainy and tomorrow it will apparently be raining all day so it also fits the occasion. The background itself wont be finished till I add the main subject though.

Domon G Gundam 30th Anniversary

Was just reminded by my brother later in the day that today was G Gundam’s 30th anniversary. That being one of the first Gundam series that I saw as a kid. On top of taking a lot of influences from Hong Kong movies, of course it is still one of my favorite series. With little time I had to come up with something quick to paint to celebrate the occasion. Thank you for all these incredible years.

Frieren in the River

I finally got to see Frieren last month (thanks to my brother for recommending it). I’m a bit late, but I’m glad I was because I got to binge watch it. The concept felt very fresh to me. What would a being that lives longer than humans feel in terms of time, activities and the importance of the relationships one develops or lack thereof. Now I need to start reading the manga.

Although seeing Frieren in the river was only but a small moment in the anime, I really liked the calm aesthetics of it. But to change it up a bit I wanted to try and get a different vantage point. and also try doing a cross section piece. I really enjoyed and learned a lot while working on this painting. Obviously I want to do more artwork based on the series in the future. There’s so much I want to paint and draw but only so much time available.
