"A Hopeless Dream Chaser"
Day 22. Today’s drawing is of Iori and Athena. I saw this reference photo from a guy that had the same style as Iori and just had to draw it. Apparently its from a show in the 90s. I was going to keep the same actress on Iori’s side, I mean we don’t know how Iori’s ex looks like. And Hosho Mai looks super beautiful in the photo. But ultimately I decided to change it to a King of Fighters character. I chose Athena.

Day 21. Today’s drawing is Anya.

Day 20. Today’s drawing is Karin’s younger sister Anju. While reading the manga, I forgot just how much she was protecting her older sister. Their sisterly bond is freakin cute.

Day 19. We’re getting closer to Halloween, so why not start drawing a couple things that fit the theme. After looking at a photo of Momochi feeding the viewer karaage I felt that I had to use such a cute moment as a reference. Then I remembered Chibi Vampire (Karin). So I put both ideas together. As I was looking for references for Karin, I started reading the manga again. It still holds up. I’m probably going to re-read it before I go to sleep in the coming days.
As for Momochi’s photo, it is a cutesy scene that is also paying homage to the Berryz Koubou song “Shining Power”.

Day 18. Today I drew Rei Ayanami. I think I should make Rei’s (our right) )eye slightly smaller, some point in the future.

Day 17. Took me a while to come up with today’s subject but decided to draw 2B from a bottom up view. I wonder if it’s visible with with just the line art though. I think that aspect of my drawing won’t really show until I either ink/hatch it or paint it though. The skirt pattern design was a bit annoying but luckily I found a good reference that shows exactly how it looks. Well that and I can omit a lot of it through the ripples and 2B’s arm.

Day 16. As a matching drawing to yesterday’s, today I drew Sakura Kinomoto. I was debating on what outfit I would choose, the one from the anime opening, the bat one from volume 11 or the fallen angel outfit from the 2nd artbook.

Day 15. Today’s drawing is of Syaoran Li. This time I only drew the line art. I couldn’t find a name to Syaoran’s fighting style, though it’s of course Chinese based. What I do know is that Syaoran likes to point his index and middle fingers so I made sure to incorporate that into his pose. Thinking about it now, maybe I should have put his sword on his back. While drawing I was also thinking of putting an ofuda in between his fingers, but I kept to my original vision of hand to hand combat. Man, Card Captor Sakura sure brings back memories.

Day 14. To complement yesterday’s drawing, today I drew Killua. I had to draw this twice since I forgot to draw in his long sleeves. So I lost a bit of time today. This time I decided to hatch instead of ink the drawing. At first I was thinking of doing both, but I was interested to check out how it looked on it’s own.
Both drawings were actually influenced by poses done by Karin Miyamoto. She has a lot of interesting poses, and since she cosplays as guy characters as well this helps me out a lot.

Day 13, today I decided to draw Kurapika. Him and Killua fight for my favorite character spot. I was thinking of inking and hatching but time was limited today.

Day 12, Jackie Chan vs Dick Wei. Ever since I saw Dick Wei’s character, I wondered if Rumiko Takahashi modeled Ranma off of him.

Day 11. This time I chose to draw kid Goku. Yesterday’s pixiv theme was winking, hence today’s drawing. I made a version that felt off, so last minute I decided to redraw it again with different proportions. It’s amazing how such small changes can make a drawing look good or somehow off. I was thinking of adding Roshi’s sunglasses but that would have covered most of Goku’s face. I might give that a try at some point in the future.
