Tomoyo Harada ski

It’s finally up. I made some last minute additions to it today. I’m so glad I bought the blu-ray copy of the movie. The quality is amazing. There are so many details that I couldn’t see before on Tomoyo’s outfit. It’s actually a lot more intricate than I thought. I also didn’t notice the Boya print on the gloves. And with the better quality I could zoom into her sunglasses to better define the reflections.

If you haven’t seen “私をスキーに連れてって ” or “Take me out to the snowland” I recommend it. It’s a nice time capsule of the time. Seems like this movie influence many to take up skiing and even now they reference it in advertisement’s. I mainly wanted to see it due to Tomoyo Harada but there are other awesome things such as a nice showcase of Toyota cars racing through the snow and their drivers. I’m pretty sure they must have been an inspiration for the sil-eighty drivers from Initial D. Very fun movie overall even with my limited Japanese.

Oh yeah, this was also a Valentine’s day movie thus the upload date.

Airi Suzuki Chinese New Year 2024

Airi made a cute post on her Instagram promoting CDTV’s New Year Live 2024. I wanted to paint something for Chinese New Year and this was the perfect subject. Her outfit was super cute.

Cirno Snowy Steps

Finally I have decided to upload my painting of Cirno on the steps background that I had previously uploaded. I’m really glad that I didn’t upload it right away. There were a couple of things I decided to change not only with Cirno but with the background as well. If you compare the background from this painting to that of the old upload, you’ll see that I have added a blue hue to the snow shadows and also worked on some rough areas over all. As for Cirno, the main area that had me concerned were her ice wings. I had some blue hues that didn’t look right. Now it looks much better.

Strangely enough, I think this might be my first time doing a piece on Cirno despite liking her design.

Night Train Station Background

Here is another background. I have the main painting completely done but I want to do some touch ups before I upload it. This background is rough and out of focus on purpose.

Checkered design Background

Last week I saw a video about the new updates to Krita. And I wanted to check it out. It’s strange how there is a bit of a learning curve when using different programs. It actually feels much better than the last time I used it a couple of years ago. Although at that time I was barely getting into digital painting. Having said that, it still feels a bit clunky. I wonder if I modify some settings it can be made to react the way I want. There are so many settings that I can edit which I like. I’m really glad that programs like these exist for free. These projects are really worth supporting.

As for this background, it is not my design. It is from a quilt it seems like from a reference photo that I’m using to test out Krita. This background helps me test out the tools and the subject will help me test out the brushes.

Snow Mountain Background

This will be the background for a painting that I plan to upload in February. It’s based on a scene from a movie I really like. Playing around with the subtle color changes in the snow and the details and lack of them on the trees was somewhat challenging. I wanted a rough idea to be represented, but at times it just looked like a bunch of scribbles.

Snowy Steps background

A winter background for a painting that I pretty much have finished. But I might edit certain details when I come back to it. For the last couple of days where I live has been snowing and going below zero degrees Fahrenheit. It really feels like winters this year.

Komi Shouko Winter line art

Rough Draft
Pencil Line Art: I quite like the way pencil flows
Line Art

For some reason I had the urge to draw Komi. It’s been a while since I last catched up with Komi’s manga. Last I remembered they went to New York I think? I think it’s time I go back to reading it.

I have a number of paintings waiting to be uploaded but I need to space them out between background and the finished painting. Which helps me rest my eyes on them so that I can give them a look over and edit as needed. Plus I really should do some more drawings and line art.

Because they are simpler to do I can create some time buffers so that I can practice and work on longer projects. My brother was telling me that I should do some traditional art, and I do want to. But it takes longer so I have been neglecting it lately. It’s sad just seeing my Nicker Poster colors cake up.

We’ll see.

Mountain Snow Man Background

Mountain Snow Man Background

This is a RE:do of an old painting that had some really good potential but was quite rough. I changed the aspect ratio and added more details that I thought would work well. The mountains were quite different than the anime in the old version. I wonder why I changed them? So in this version I made them closer to how they are supposed to look like.

Mem-cho Winter stroll

I was fighting this painting till the end. I made so may edits at different times and now I’m not even sure how I feel about it. Did I push it too far? Not far enough? Should I simplify more? perhaps at a later date I will know the answer. But for now I will leave it as is.

I really like Memcho, I hope I did her justice. Either way I want to paint her more in the future.

For those who follow me here you get to see the old version I had ready to go a couple of weeks ago before I began editing it this week:

In this version I was following the line art more closely that I drew for Inktober 2023 Day 16.
